“Our convictions are strengthened by the belief that architecture makes a difference in people’s lives” reads the presentation of CJS – Carlos Jimenez Studio – the office this prominent architect born in Costa Rica founded almost 30 years ago in Houston, where he settled as a teenager. A sort of manifesto that refers to the human dimension intrinsic to our profession, and that through different words and ideas is a constant in his narrative. The same narrative was also emerged during the meeting he held with Enrique Browne, Yves Besançon, Raimundo Lira and Carlos Alberto Urzúa – of the AOA Magazine editorial committee – on his latest visit to Chile, invited to preside the jury of an architectural competition sponsored by the AOA in the city of Temuco. A graduate of the College of Architecture at the University of Houston (1981), Jiménez is a prestigious and award winning architect, whose work has been displayed in museums and galleries all over the world. Equally relevant is his activity as a respected teacher in European and American universities – professor since 1996 at the Rice School of Architecture – critic and juror in numerous international competitions, including the Pritzker Prize since 2001.

This outstanding architect, professor of the Rice University School of Architecture, USA, has been a juror in major international competitions, including the Pritzker Prize. Passing through Chile and during his stay he gave us his particular vision of architecture.
