Concurso Lycée Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Competition for the Lycée Antoine de Saint Exupéry school
Hace unos meses, la Corporación Educacional Alianza Francesa convocó a un concurso público de arquitectura a fin de definir el diseño de la segunda sede del emblemático Lycée de Saint Exupéry en Santiago, esta vez en el emergente sector de Chamisero. Organizado por la AOA, el certamen recibió más de 40 propuestas, las cuales debían reflejar los principios que inspiran al sistema educativo francés y que, a su vez, inspiraron al arquitecto Emilio Duhart para el diseño de la sede de Vitacura. Esta publicación conjunta del Lycée Antoine de Saint-Exupéry y la AOA recopila los 41 proyectos participantes, todos ellos de gran nivel. Con ello, el área de Publicaciones AOA abre una nueva línea temática, que aspira a promover certámenes arquitectónicos de relevancia y compartir la versatilidad y riqueza de las propuestas desarrolladas por los arquitectos. A few months ago, the Alliance Francaise Educational Corporation held a public competition to determine the design of the second venue for the landmark Lycée de Saint Exupéry in Santiago, this time in the emerging sector of Chamisero. Organized by the AOA, the contest received over 40 proposals which were to reflect the principles inspiring the French educational system and that also inspired architect Emilio Duhart in his design for the Vitacura venue. This joint publication by the Lycée Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and the AOA brings together the 41 participating designs, all of great value. With this piece, the AOA Publications area opens a new theme line, aimed at the promotion of highly relevant competitions and to share the versatility and richness of the proposals developed by the architects.
Veinte años han transcurrido de un cierto renacer de la arquitectura chilena, en que el pabellón de Chile en la Expo Sevilla, de los arquitectos Cruz y Del Sol, marca el inicio de un exitoso proceso de integración internacional y de reflexión disciplinar interna. Hijos de este proceso, las nuevas generaciones de arquitectos sub 40 comienzan a ocupar espacios cada vez más protagónicos en el nuevo ideario de la arquitectura pública. Por una parte existe acceso concreto a encargos vía concursos públicos que hasta hacía un tiempo no se producía; por otra, se observa una gran cantidad de arquitectos de universidades tradicionales y privadas incorporando campos de investigación a sus prácticas, donde la definición tanto del encargo como de la obra se ponen en cuestionamiento. Este número de TRACE propone ahondar en torno a un fenómeno muy propio de estos tiempos, abriendo espacios de difusión y discusión en torno a él. Se suman a este proceso artistas y fotógrafos que integran un nuevo tejido de prácticas culturales. Twenty years have passed since a certain rebirth of Chilean architecture. The Chile pavilion at the Seville Expo, by architects Cruz and Del Sol marks the beginning of a successful process of international integration and inner reflection on the discipline. As children of this process, the new generations of architects under 40 are beginning to play increasingly more starring roles in the new ideology of public architecture. On one hand there is more concrete access to commissions through open competitions which until recently didn’t occur; on the other, there are a great many architects from traditional and private universities incorporating research fields into their practice, where the definition of the commission as well as of the work itself is put into question. This issue of TRACE proposes to deepen into a typical phenomenon of these times, creating opportunities for the promotion and discussion. This process is joined by artists and photographers who integrate a new network of cultural practices.
