Casa Olivetti Proyecto de vivienda para los gerentes en Santiago, desarrollado junto a Alberto Cruz Covarrubias Ubicada en Lo Curro, en los faldeos del cerro Manquehue. El terreno se sitúa a media falda, a nivel de la Gran Vía, altura suficiente para dominar el valle de Santiago hacia el sur sin interrupciones. Este terreno tiene su propia particularidad, posee una hondonada en su centro conservando una buena pendiente, un jardín que trabaja la pendiente. Esto propone situar la casa al centro del gran terreno sobre un trazado de acequias de regadío. Unas canaletas paralelas dejando unas melgas anegables a voluntad. Una geometría que ordena el terreno en niveles controlables independientes de las líneas de cotas del relieve. Aquí no se instala una casa de montaña, sino una casa urbana con todas sus propiedades para recepciones. El partido de la casa es circular: un anillo cerrado pero comunicado con un sistema de aguas siguiendo la pendiente. Como espacio central y de mayor extensión relacionando todos los ambientes, viene a ser un gran salón a la intemperie con múltiples situaciones. En su centro se eleva una terraza; bajo ella se sitúa un bar con iluminación cenital dirigida. Este bar, al mismo nivel del living, forma un patio que se prolonga en el paso que conduce a la primera piscina protegida por un parrón, a la cual sigue otra abierta. El paso del patio-salón a las piscinas interrumpe el anillo. El último dormitorio llega a un nivel más alto. Esto permite que el circuito de las aguas incursione bajo este dormitorio sugiriendo situaciones encontradas en islas del Mediterráneo. En el corte del anillo se conjugan los diferentes niveles para facilitar la subida a la terraza sobre los techos. Aquí nos encontramos con unos brazos de perfiles metálicos en direcciones libres partiendo de los pilares de esquina. No son esculturas colocadas sobre un pedestal en la esquina. El paseo sobre el techo dominando el patio equipado se encuentra en cada módulo de dormitorios con una interrupción sobresaliendo en el triángulo que los dormitorios dejan al girar en el anillo. Estas bóvedas plásticas, luminosas precisamente sobre los baños, constituyen su iluminación. Desde las terrazas altas se percibe muy bien el baño exterior, prolongación del baño. Aquí se puede tomar una ducha a la intemperie. Olivetti House Housing project for company managers in Santiago, developed with Alberto Cruz Covarrubias Located in Lo Curro on the slopes of Manquehue hill, the site is located half way up the slope, at the level of the Gran Via, high enough to overlook the valley of Santiago to the south without interruption. This plot has its own feature, a depression in the center while maintaining a good slope, a garden that deals with the slope. This suggests placing the house in the center of the large plot over a grid of irrigation ditches. A parallel set of canals with small tracts to be flooded at will. The geometry organizes the plot in manageable levels, independent of
the contour lines. This is not a mountain home, but an urban house with all the features necessary for receptions. The house parti is circular: a closed ring, however connected with a system of waters following the slope. As a central space with a greater extension linking all the rooms, it becomes a large hall in the open with multiple situations. A terrace sits at the center. A bar with directional skylights lies beneath. This bar, at the same level of the living room, forms a courtyard that extends into the passage leading to the first pool protected by a grape arbor, which is followed by an open one. The passage from the lounge-patio to the pools interrupts the ring. The last bedroom reaches a higher level. This allows the circuit of waters to flow under this bedroom suggesting situations found on Mediterranean islands. In the opening of the ring the different levels combine to facilitate the climb up to the terrace on the roof. Here we find arms of steel profiles going in all directions starting from the corner columns. They are not sculptures placed on a pedestal in the corner. The promenade on the roof overlooking the furnished patio finds in each bedroom module an interruption protruding in the triangle the bedrooms form while rotating in the ring. These bright, plastic domes precisely over the restrooms provide them with illumination. From the high terraces you can very well perceive the outdoor bathroom extension, where you can take a shower in the open.
