This shop follows the example of most stores on 10 de Julio, that is, open without shop windows or gates, with free access. The site is located on the corner of an alley. It has 12 feet of frontage and a good depth, typical of the old adobe houses in this sector of Santiago. We propose a bare space. An inverted pyramid rests on four columns forming a large roof window, a ceiling full of light. The metal structure is light, with exposed Pizarreño fiber cement V boards. The shop’s attraction is the relationship between light and shadow. From the large roof window a ray of sunlight illuminates the customer counter inviting passersby to enter. As it is located on the north sidewalk, looking south, the facade remains in shadow, while the sun illuminates the interior, thus attracting the public as butterflies that go towards light. This experience begins while walking down the sidewalk: suddenly you find yourself stepping on tiling that comes from the shop and diagonal lines that invite you to follow inside, which opens with no boundary lines and with greater clarity than the sidewalk, something never seen on 10 de Julio. To make the welcoming illuminated interior even clearer, a 7 m high canopy covers the sidewalk, extending the metal structure to the street. An aluminum skirt hangs from the edge of this canopy, projecting the CAAL logo in large letters advancing on the roadway. This aims to convert the street into an interior space, infuse on the passer the feeling of walking through a vast free-transit interior. In the end, creating a wider, more generous sidewalk. This venue, an example of its kind, is in itself a logo and a milestone for Citroën replacement parts. As if the same factory had delivered it to assemble. It remained open for 16 years with great success, until it changed ownership and, what happened was, as the saying goes: “out of sight, out of mind”.
