De visita en Chile, el destacado arquitecto catalán intenta explicar las constantes que definen la arquitectura de RCR. Como desafiar los conceptos establecidos, fundirse con el paisaje sin poner límites o crear atmósferas esenciales, entendiendo que una obra solo existe en la medida que sea activada por su habitante. Un ejercicio que les exige partir siempre desde cero. Al titularse el año 87 de la ETSA Vallès, tres amigos decidieron no solo fundar su propio estudio de arquitectura, sino hacerlo en el pequeño pueblo donde habían nacido -Olot, en el corazón de Girona- en vez de instalarse en la bullente Barcelona. En otra declaratoria de originalidad, Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem y Ramón Vilalta unieron las iniciales de sus nombres de pila –y no de los apellidos, como suele hacerse- para crear su marca, RCR Arquitectes. Y desde el primer día también decidieron cuestionarse todo, un modo de hacer y crear que se inició con el concurso para un faro costero que ellos ganaron con una pieza horizontal, cuando pensar en faro es pensar en vertical. Ya son más de 35 los concursos ganados, incluyendo trofeos en Japón, Bélgica y Dubai, a los que se suma, entre muchos otros reconocimientos, el Premio Nacional de Cultura en Arquitectura que les otorgó la Generalitat el año 2005 y la incorporación a la AIA en 2010, “por su significante contribución en la arquitectura y la sociedad”. Upon graduation from ETSA Vallès in 1987, three friends decided not only to establish their own architectural firm, but also to do it in the small town where they were born - Olot, in the heart of Girona - instead of settling in the bustling Barcelona. In another declaration of originality, Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramón Vilalta joined the initials of their first names, not their last names as is often done, to create their brand RCR Arquitectes. And also from the first day they decided to question everything, a way of doing and creating that began with the competition for a coastal lighthouse they won with a horizontal piece, whereas to think of a beacon is to think of a vertical element. To date they have won more than 35 competitions, including prizes in Japan, Belgium and Dubai, plus, among many other awards, the National Culture Prize in Architecture awarded them by the Generalitat in 2005 and the incorporation into the AIA in 2010, “for their significant contribution to architecture and society”.
