Se buscó aplicar arquitectura moderna en un contexto de cultura no-occidental. El paisaje formal es silencio, expresado en una construcción horizontal, como una masa suspendida en las arenas del desierto. Es un vacío espacial trabajado con la luz y el aire. “Only silence can withstand noise.” We wanted to use modern architecture in a non-Western cultural context. The formal landscape is silence, expressed in a horizontal construction, as a mass suspended in the sands of the desert. It is a spatial vacuum designed with light and air.

Carlos Alberto Urzúa: Sorprende el convencer a un cliente de correr riesgos, de unirse a la aventura y a una apuesta incierta… - Esto no lo he explicado (se ríe), pero los dueños de Les Cols vinieron con el encargo de hacer una ventana en la cocina de su restaurante. ¡No es broma! Y terminamos haciendo el proceso completo, desde la remodelación hasta el diseño de las servilletas. Después vinieron las cinco habitaciones de los pabellones. Siempre nos hacemos la pregunta de qué podemos ofrecer, en este caso, a una persona que se quedaría a dormir después de cenar. Simple: lo que no tiene en su casa. Y le ofrecimos un espacio vacío, para que cuando entrara con su pareja se preguntara ‘qué hacemos tú y yo aquí’... Queríamos volver a que la persona se encontrara con ella misma y con la persona con quien está. YB: En tu charla dijiste que mientras la respuesta a la pregunta que hace un cliente no sea bella, hay que seguir trabajando… - Somos de los que pensamos que la arquitectura tiene que dar un mensaje de belleza y emoción. Damos por supuesto que el programa y la normativa deben estar resueltos, luego debes hacer SENTIR a la persona. Hasta que no provocamos eso, no paramos. Queremos que cuando alguien llegue a un espacio nuestro, vuelva a sentir aquello profundo que conmueve. Por eso no importa la medida del proyecto. Y puede ser abrir una ventana en la cocina, sí. YB: In your lecture you mentioned that as long as the question asked by the client is not beautiful, you have to keep on working… - We are of those who believe that architecture has to give a message of beauty and emotion. We assume that the program and the regulations must be dealt with, and then you have to make the person FEEL. We don’t stop until we achieve this. We want that when someone comes to one of our spaces, he may again experience deep, moving feelings. So the extent of the project does not matter. And it well may be making a window in the kitchen, yes.
