A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 11

MRS PORTEOUS, HEAD OF YEAR 11 A reminder that all Year 11 students should be bringing in a fully charged Chromebook every day to school, if they own one. If students need to borrow a chromebook from the school, they need to show either a yellow card or green repair card (for use if their own Chromebook is broken) to collect one from the hubs. To ensure that students that do not own a Chromebook always have access to one, please remind your child to bring theirs into school as we have a limited number. Thank you and have a lovely weekend! A reminder that we are still doing ‘Reading Wednesdays’ when pupils will sit and read for 20 minutes during tutor time. Students should therefore be bringing in their own reading books or they can borrow one from our school library. This week in tutor time students were elected to take part in our Student Parliament. The Student Parliament is a group of elected student representatives from each form and each year group, who meet to discuss issues, make decisions and influence change within the school. It provides a platform for students to share their views and set policies that shape their educational environment. Our Waldegrave student parliament is split into five committees: Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), Environment (Eco), Curriculum, Community and Healthy Schools. There can be up to three members for each tutor group. We strongly advise students to put themselves forward, in order to help contribute to the life of the school. We also had nurses in school on Monday and Tuesday this week so that students could have their annual flu jabs if parents/guardians gave consent. There will be catch ups for this, for any students who were not in school, at a later date. Well done to 11PGU for getting 46 epraise points this week. Great work!

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘King of Nothing’ by Nathanael Lessore

I really really really enjoyed this book! I specifically enjoyed how realistic and actually quite intense it was towards the end. The characters are all written so well. For example I really like how you can tell Anton is not as bad as Kehinde from the start when he kind of defended Mathew when Kehinde was about to give him a hard time. The scene where Mathew and Anton are at a sleepover and they’re talking about his nan made me cry! It was just so wholesome and the boys’ unexpected friendship is such a lovely part of the book. I will definitely suggest this book to people in the future!
