La Caja de Compensación La Araucana convocó a un concurso privado para diseñar su nueva sede en la ciudad de Puerto Montt. La propuesta ganadora, de Pradoarquitectos, está en construcción.
La Araucana Compensation Fund convened a private competition to design its new headquarters in the city of Puerto Montt. The winning proposal by Pradoarquitectos is currently under construction.
El diseño busca generar un nuevo hito en Puerto Montt, un faro que irradie y muestre el quehacer de la Caja de Compensación, literalmente, con transparencia. Esta transparencia permite que tanto el peatón como el usuario entiendan la multiplicidad de funciones que allí se realizan. The design aims to become a new landmark for Puerto Montt, a radiating beacon that transparently displays the work of the Compensation Fund. This transparency allows the pedestrian as well as the customer to understand the multiple functions performed in the venue.

Por una parte, el edificio de La Araucana debía acoger y conocer a sus usuarios; y por otra, motivar a los afiliados a acercarse a la entidad a solicitar servicios y beneficios. A partir de un volumen compacto, orientado al sur oriente y con poco sol, se comenzó a perforarlo, dividirlo, abrir su interior y levantarlo, de modo de generar espacios que se abran al sol y revelen su interior pleno de personas circulando, en espera o en los distintos recintos destinados a su atención. Se busca que el sol –un bien escaso en Puerto Montt–, que en este caso recorre por detrás del edificio, conquiste el interior e inunde el hall de acceso del primer piso, y los halls públicos de los distintos niveles de atención. On one hand, the La Araucana building should welcome and understand its customers and, secondly, encourage members to approach the venue to apply for services and benefits. The initial compact volume –facing southeast and with very little exposure to sunlight– was pierced, divided and its interior opened and lifted so as to create spaces open to the sun, and to reveal its interior full of people moving, waiting or in different rooms destined for their service. The main purpose is to bring the sun inside –a rare commodity in Puerto Montt, which in this case runs behind the building– and allow it to flood the entrance hall on the first floor and the public halls of the different levels of service.
