Corresponde iniciar la presentación de nuestra revista, la número 25, destacando a uno de los gestores de la AOA: el arquitecto Cristián Fernández Cox, fallecido recientemente, quien además de profesional de excelencia fue una persona notable.
En esta edición, el desarrollo del artículo principal reúne dos condiciones inéditas: estar dedicado a un arquitecto-monje, como es el Hermano Martín Correa OSB, y la presentación de una única obra, como es la Iglesia del Monasterio de Los Benedictinos de Las Condes, diseñada en conjunto con el Padre Gabriel Guarda OSB, su compañero de Orden. El artículo, en realidad una conversación profunda y cercana con el Hermano Martín, se lo debemos al arquitecto Patricio Gross, quien al egresar de la Escuela de Arquitectura de la PUC y durante tres años fue ayudante de ambos monjes para dar forma a la emblemática obra. De nuestras oficinas asociadas mostramos en total 10 obras, siete de ellas en detalle, cada una de las cuales aporta interesantes propuestas y respuestas arquitectónicas. Entre ellas destacan la buena solución urbana de un hotel levantado en calle Ismael Valdés Vergara, que respeta y valora el orden existente; la poesía de los espacios interiores del Instituto Profesional Santo Tomás en San Joaquín; la potencia del Centro Comercial Las Arenas de Barcelona, España; el interés formal del nuevo edificio de la planta Carozzi y el rescate patrimonial de la habilitación de la Biblioteca Pública de Antofagasta.
En cuanto a arquitectura joven, esta vez destacamos el trabajo de OFArquitectos, estudio liderado por Francisco Céspedes y Álvaro Ramírez, a través de dos atractivos proyectos de vivienda y una obra de interiorismo.
Reiteramos y reforzamos el compromiso editorial de la revista con los concursos de arquitectura. En este contexto, compartimos los resultados del certamen para el Pabellón de Chile para la Expo Milán 2015, que fue organizado por la AOA y donde ganó el proyecto de la oficina de Cristián Undurraga. También relevante es el Edificio anexo al Museo Histórico Nacional, ganado por Aguiló + Pedraza. Por su parte, la oficina de Albert Tidy obtuvo el primer lugar en el concurso convocado por la Fundación Mario Toral para construir un polo cultural en los terrenos de la casa-taller del pintor. Cerramos con el edificio para la Caja de Compensación La Araucana de Puerto Montt, concurso privado ganado por Pradoarquitectos.
We must begin the presentation of our magazine, issue number 25, with a special mention of one of the founders of the AOA: architect Cristián Fernandez Cox, recently deceased, who in addition to being an outstanding professional was a remarkable human being.
In this issue the development of the main article meets two unprecedented conditions: it is dedicated to an architect-monk, Brother Martín Correa OSB, and presents a single work, the Church of the Monastery of The Benedictines of Las Condes, which he designed with Father Gabriel Guarda OSB, a fellow member of the order. We owe the article, in fact a deep and intimate conversation with Brother Martín, to architect Patricio Gross, who for three years after graduating from the School of Architecture of the Catholic University collaborated with the monks in the design of the exemplary work. We present 10 works from our associate offices, seven of them in detail, and each one providing interesting architectural proposals and responses. These include the good urban solution displayed by a hotel on Ismael Valdés Vergara street, that respects and values the existing order; the poetry of the interior spaces of the Santo Tomás Professional Institute in San Joaquín; the power of Las Arenas Shopping Center in Barcelona, Spain; the formal interest of the new building for the Carozzi factory and the heritage recovery embodied in the Antofagasta Public Library.
Regarding young architecture, we include this time the work of OFArquitectos, a studio led by Francisco Céspedes and Álvaro Ramírez, with two attractive housing projects and a work of interior design.
We reiterate and strengthen the magazine’s editorial commitment to publishing architectural competitions. In this regard, we share the results of the competition for the Chilean Pavilion for Expo Milano 2015, organized by the AOA and with the winning project by the office of Cristián Undurraga. Also relevant is the annex building for the National History Museum, won by Aguiló + Pedraza. Meanwhile, the office of Albert Tidy won first place in the competition held by the Mario Toral Foundation to build a cultural center in the grounds of the home and studio of the painter. We end this edition with the building for the La Araucana Compensation Fund of Puerto Montt, a private competition won by Pradoarquitectos
