Espacio Continuo, registro tipológico de los caracoles comerciales de Santiago, 1974-1983 Continuous space, a typological record of the commercial spirals of Santiago, 1974-1983 Realizada por el fotógrafo Cristóbal Palma, especializado en arquitectura, esta publicación reúne y presenta un registro de los 26 caracoles comerciales de Santiago, el cual es precedido por textos del propio Palma, de Camilo Yañez (curador de la muestra fotográfica realizada en galería AFA), y de Mario Marchant, cuya investigación expone los aspectos más relacionados con la tipología y el contexto propio de los caracoles. El trabajo que compone este libro fue presentado y expuesto, en gran formato, en Galería AFA, en una muestra que contó con el apoyo de Fondart. Done by photographer Cristobal Palma, specialized in architecture, this publication gathers and presents a record of 26 commercial spirals in Santiago, preceded by texts written by Palma himself, Camilo Yañez (curator of the photographic show at AFA Gallery) and Mario Marchant, whose research exposes aspects more related to typology and the context of each of the spirals. The work presented by this book was shown in large format at AFA Gallery, in a show that had the support of Fondart (National Arts and Culture Development Fund).
El edificio para las Naciones Unidas en Santiago, CEPAL, reúne desde múltiples puntos de vista cualidades excepcionales para una obra de arquitectura. Por una parte, la exitosa gestión política por construir una sede de Naciones Unidas en Latinoamérica y el Caribe en Chile representa los alcances sociales y culturales en que el país transitaba a finales de los años 50. Por otra parte, los años 60 marcan un nivel de madurez de la arquitectura moderna en Chile, reuniendo las obras más destacadas del siglo XX en diferentes ámbitos (vivienda social, arquitectura religiosa, industrial y de educación entre otras). El libro recoge diversas pistas dispersas en el tiempo, reuniéndolas y cruzándolas con textos que dan cuenta de la profundidad de la obra, desplegada en sus diversas dimensiones y cualidades. A interesante documentación inédita, planos, fotografías, textos e investigaciones, se suman los escritos de Barry Bergdoll, curador Jefe de Arquitectura y Diseño del MoMA, Fernando Pérez Oyarzún, director del Programa de Doctorado de la Universidad Católica, Alicia Bácena, Secretaria Ejecutiva de CEPAL y de los propios autores. The building for the United Nations in Santiago, or ECLAC building (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean), presents from many viewpoints exceptional qualities as a work of architecture. First, the successful political negotiations to build the United Nations headquarters for Latin America and the Caribbean in Chile reflects the social and cultural achievements the country had attained in the late 50s. Moreover, the 60s mark a certain level of maturity in the development of modern architecture in Chile, bringing together the most important works of the twentieth century in various fields (social housing, religious, industrial and education architecture among others). The book gathers several clues scattered in time, combining and crossing them with texts that reflect the depth of the work, displayed in its various dimensions and qualities. An interesting set of unpublished documents, drawings, photographs, texts and research studies adds to writings by Barry Bergdoll, Chief Curator of Architecture and Design at MoMA; Fernando Pérez Oyarzún, Director of the Doctoral Program at the Catholic University; Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretary of ECLAC and the authors themselves.
