El proyecto se genera a través de una licitación pública convocada por el municipio de Valdivia en conjunto con el MOP Región de los Ríos el año 2009, para el diseño y construcción del Centro de Alto Rendimiento Náutico de Valdivia, emplazado a orillas del río Calle Calle en el sector Las Ánimas, al costado oriente de la calle Pedro Aguirre Cerda. Por su condición única de río navegable en Chile, el Calle Calle ha sido escenario natural para el desarrollo de deportes náuticos de alta competencia. Es en este contexto que el proyecto el CAR Náutico tiene como misión fortalecer el trabajo especializado y la preparación de seleccionados nacionales, debiendo albergar los programas de entrenamiento año corrido. El programa general contempla un sector de naves (bodegas) para albergue de embarcaciones, muelles, un sector administrativo, cafetería, un sector de entrenamiento específico con gimnasio, clínica, baños y camarines, y un sector de hospedería para 30 deportistas. En su morfología el proyecto recoge la sinuosidad de un contexto fluvial, como la estructura que da continuidad a un paseo peatonal que recorre por sobre el área deportiva del CAR.
The project is the result of an open tender called in 2009 by the city government of Valdivia and the Region of the Rivers local office of the Public Works Ministry, for the design and construction of a Nautical High Performance Center for Valdivia, located on the Las Animas sector of the Calle-Calle River bank, on the eastern side of Pedro Aguirre Cerda Street. Due to its unique condition as the only navigable river in Chile, the Calle-Calle has been a natural stage for the development of high level competitive nautical sports. In this context the project for the Nautical HPC has the mission of strengthening the specialized work and preparation of the national teams, providing a venue for the yearlong training programs. The general functional program considers an area of (storage) sheds for boats, docks, an administrative center, coffee shop, a specific training area with gym, health clinic, baths and locker rooms, and a dormitory for 30 athletes. The shape of the project reflects the sinuosity of the river environment in the manner of a structure that gives continuity to a pedestrian promenade crossing over the sports area of the HPC.
