Escantillón / Wall Section

These conditions give rise to the development of two volumes. The first runs parallel to the river and lodges the sports area, gym, health clinic, baths and locker rooms. Its walkable roof connects to the public pathways turning it into a lookout point over the river and the competitions (the building is placed on the finish line of the rowing tracks used for river racing). Perpendicular to the sports building the design proposes a higher volume housing private activities, such as the administrative area and dormitories for the athletes, which are placed facing the morning sun. On the second level a smaller volume connects the public and private areas by means of the coffee shop.

The site conditions and location led to the development of a complex structural system based on a series of reinforced concrete pylons of 1 meter in diameter and 12 meters deep over which a 1 meter thick foundation slab receives the building's loads. Finally, the first level ground slab is 1 meter above the foundation slab in order to protect from possible river surges. The proposal reflects the use of sheet metal finishes in local architecture incorporating MiniWave metal cladding on the building's facades. On a gray colored base, vertical insets in green reflect the river forest environment, and horizontal stripes of blue tones face the grand Calle-Calle River.
