El restaurante Cumarú nace de un encargo a partir de la materialidad, la madera de cumarú adquirida por los propietarios, donde la primera consideración fue optar por el uso de un único material. Así, el revestimiento interior y exterior del edificio, los cielos, ventanas, pisos, deck y muros medianeros son de madera. Una segunda idea arquitectónica fue soterrar el edificio de manera de lograr distintos niveles y mayores alturas en los comedores y en los patios. Se creó una terraza posterior sobre un deck bajo los árboles, con un bar; y una terraza anterior, frente a la calle, enterrada, con el fin de protegerse de los autos pero sin ocultarse de los peatones. En el segundo piso se habilitó una tercera terraza cubierta y protegida del viento, abierta a la calle y al patio posterior. La iluminación combina elementos fríos y cálidos que logran resaltar la espacialidad y poner en valor las tonalidades propias de la madera. Cumarú restaurant is born from a commission derived from a material –Cumarú wood– acquired by the owners. The first consideration was to embrace the use of a single material. So the interior and exterior finishes, ceilings, windows, flooring, deck and dividing walls are all made of wood. The second architectural idea was to sink the building in order to obtain different levels and larger heights in dining rooms and courtyards. A back terrace was built on a deck under the trees, with a bar; a front terrace, facing the street but sunken in order to protect from traffic but not hiding from pedestrians. On the second floor a third covered terrace is protected from the wind, open to the street and the back terrace. Lighting combines warm and cool elements to highlight the spaces and enhance the natural tones of wood.
