Charles Renfro es arquitecto principal del estudio Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R) con base en la ciudad de Nueva York. Vino a Chile en el marco del evento PSi-UNIACC- GAM, donde dio una charla magistral. En esta entrevista, realizada por el arquitecto Rodrigo Tisi, contextualiza el pensamiento y la reflexión que hace el estudio DS+R en relación a la arquitectura, el arte y el mundo de performance, incluida la propuesta concebida para el proyecto SCL2110. Charles Renfro is principal architect of the Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R) studio based in New York City. He came to Chile to the PSI- UNIACC-GAM event where he gave a keynote address. In this interview, conducted by architect Rodrigo Tisi, he puts into context the thoughts and reflections that DS + R studio makes in relation to architecture, art and the world of performance, including the proposal conceived for the SCL2110 project.
“Fue amor al primer dibujo” dijo Charles Renfro (47) cuando conoció a Elizabeth Diller y Ricardo Scofidio en 1997, para luego incorporarse como socio al estudio y sumar su creatividad y apellido a la firma, conformando un pequeño equipo de trabajo -poco más de 10 personas- responsable de proyectos tan importantes e innovadores como el Blur Building, la renovación del Lincoln Center de Manhattan y el High Line de Nueva York. Graduado en 1987 en la Universidad de Rice, que acaba de premiarlo como uno de sus ex alumnos más distinguidos, Renfro estuvo en nuestro país invitado por la UNIACC, una visita auspiciada por la AOA y la empresa MK. Dio una charla magistral en el GAM, donde abordó el tema de las nuevas prácticas de performance y tecnologías de la comunicación en la arquitectura. "It was love at first drawing" Charles Renfro (47) said when he met Elizabeth Diller and Ricardo Scofidio in 1997, to later join as partner to the studio adding his creativity and name to the firm. A small work team -a little over 10 people- responsible for important and innovating projects such as the Blur Building, the renovations of Lincoln Center in Manhattan and the High Line in New York. Graduated in 1987 from Rice University, which recently recognized him as one of its most distinguished alumni, Renfro came to our country invited by UNIACC, on a visit sponsored by the AOA and MK enterprises. He gave a keynote speech at the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center, GAM, where he addressed the issue of new performance and media technology practices in architecture.
