A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEADTEACHER
KEY SCHOOL DATES
It has been lovely to welcome students back into school following the half term break. Although the days are getting shorter, that has not stopped us packing in as much as we can over the last couple of weeks. There have been a number of trips out of school which have included a trip to the theatre to see A view from the Bridge, a trip to the English National Opera and the Barbican, a trip to

Armistice Day - 11 November Diwali - 12 November
On Wednesday we launched our Parent Promise initiative and are extremely grateful to those parents who have already pledged their support. If you have not had a chance to do so please click here to view the information. This really will make a difference to every child’s experience in school. The annual PTA Christmas Tree sale is being held on Saturday 2 December, further details can be found at the end of the bulletin. We are also accepting donations of unwanted uniform for the Pre-loved Uniform Sale taking place at the same time. Please hand any donations into reception. Today after the Last Post was heard throughout school we marked Armistice Day with a minute’s silence. More than ever we all understand the value of peace as we see so many suffering from terrible conflicts around the world. This weekend also sees many in our school community celebrating Diwali, a festival celebrating the victory of good over evil. I hope that everyone finds a way to illuminate the darkness in the coming weeks.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING
Next week is Anti-Bullying Week and this year’s theme is ‘Make a Noise About Bullying’. The theme aims to highlight how important it is to speak out when we see or hear bullying going on and to encourage everyone to choose respect and unity, even when we disagree. The Anti-Bullying Alliance’s call to action states: Too often, we are silent when we see bullying take place, silent about the hurt bullying causes, and silent when we hear bullying dismissed as ‘just banter’. It doesn’t have to be this way. As a school we will be highlighting Anti-Bullying Week through tutor times, assemblies and PDC lessons. Parents can join us to ‘Make a Noise About Bullying’ by using this Anti-Bullying Week parent toolkit .

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 11
It has been a very busy couple of weeks back at Waldegrave for our Year 11s. I hope they had a productive half term preparing for their mocks but also found some time to rest. We are very proud and impressed by the way Year 11 have conducted themselves during the mock exam process. Their attitude during the exams means that they have made every effort to perform at their best. We hope that this positive approach pays off when they receive their results and feedback as to how they performed in the exams. We are aware that some students may not achieve the results they were hoping for, but the Year 11 pastoral team along with subject teachers will be on hand to support students and reassure them that this is a process that is designed to ensure students are prepared for the summer exams.
Today our Waldegrave community commemorated Remembrance Day. A group of students played the Last Post live around the school, followed by the whole school observing a minute’s silence in respect for those that have fought in conflicts to defend our freedom and protect our way of life.
Last week our Year 10/11 Netball team had a tough match vs Christ’s. Although the team didn’t win, we were all impressed with the incredible teamwork and resilience that was shown. Well done to Milly V for receiving player of the match.
The Netball team are keeping busy, having played against Turing House yesterday. A report on their performance will be mentioned in next week’s bulletin. They will also be taking part in the rearranged Netball tournament next Thursday. I would like to wish them all the best of luck, we look forward to hearing how they get on.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
Tender is the night - F.Scott Fitzgerald
“I want to give a really BAD party. I mean it. I want to give a party where there’s a brawl and seductions and people going home with their feelings hurt and women passed out in the cabinet de toilette. You wait and see.” Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a classic novel set in the 1920s in the French Riviera. Like his more famous novel, The Great Gatsby, it follows the lives of the elite as they strive for influence and power in a changing world. If you want a challenging but rewarding read, I highly recommend this book and Fitzgerald’s other works.
