Cotton Angus Ranch
Hello Friends, Family, and Fellow Cattlemen, Once again, this is Erika and Rocko, here to fill you in on what’s been happening at Cotton Angus. To those of you who have supported our program over the years—thank you. And to the many new faces joining us this year, we’re glad you’re here and excited to share what we’ve been working on. Let’s cover the important details first. Our 23rd Annual Production Sale will once again be held exclusively online through DVAuction.com. Bidding will open April 15th at 10:00 AM CST. Be sure to register on DVAuction a few days in advance so you’re ready to go. The sale will begin closing April 18th at 5:00 PM CST. Please note—this is a dynamic closing format. If a bid is placed on any lot within the final five minutes, all lots will extend another five minutes. This will continue until no additional bids are placed. As Dad always says, “You can bid in the comfort of your underwear… if you’re wearin’ any!” All jokes aside, this format has proven to work very well for our program. While it may not be a traditional sale day, we still invite you to join us for the tailgate following the close of the sale. If you are unable to bid online, please don’t hesitate to call one of the listed representatives—we are more than happy to assist you. Now onto what really matters—the cattle. This year, we approached the footnotes a little differently. Instead of repeating the same phrases—“smooth fronted,” “great feet,” “true Angus head”—we challenged Dad to explain the why behind each mating. Why that cow. Why that bull. At times, his answer might be, “I just liked the pairing,” but there is far more behind it than that. There is a method—built over years of experience, observation, and understanding what works. When you study the pedigrees, you’ll start to see the patterns. Proven genetics are not built overnight. They are developed intentionally, generation after generation. When a line proves itself, Dad has a way of bringing those genetics back forward—stacking consistency into the program. It may look simple on paper, but it is anything but. This is years of disciplined breeding, and it shows in this year’s offering. As you go through the catalog, we encourage you to dig into the pedigrees—have the American Angus Association pulled up and study them. You’ll start to see exactly what we’re talking about. Yes, you may notice some repetition—but that’s not by accident. That’s consistency. That’s the result of doing the hard work over time. This set of cattle represents that work to a T, and we’re proud to offer them to you. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Dad would be more than happy to talk pedigrees- as long as he’s not with his grandkids. When the “Water Moccasins” (Willow and Maeve), Rocket Man and Alonna of Volga are over, that’s when he’s actually “busy”. Otherwise, he’s an open book that’s hard to shut.
