Northern Exposure Salers & Angus Bull Sale [4/21/26]

Welcome to the 12th annual “Northern Exposure” Bull Sale. We at Elm Creek Ranch, along with our good friends Dave and Brad Feist at Feist Salers Ranch, are proud to promote and sponsor this quality sale. To give you a little background on the Elm Creek program, this is our twelfth production sale; however we have been selling bulls at the Midland Bull Test for over 35 years with eleven World Champion Pen of Salers bulls. At Elm Creek Ranch we have left no stone unturned in providing comprehensive, detailed and accurate records of the individual bulls in the sale along with complete background data on the dam’s of the bulls. Please note docility scores in the sale catalog: 1 = superior/quiet/above average; 2 = Good/ Acceptable/average; 3 = somewhat nervous/below pen average; 4 = Nervous. Note the sale bulls lot tags are color coded to correlate to their percentage Salers: Orange=Purebred Salers; Pink=7/8 Salers; Purple=3/4 Salers; Red=5/8 Salers; White=1/2; Green=>50% Angus and <50% Salers; Blue=Registered Angus. Again this year the sale location will be at our Elm Creek South Ranch which is located right off of Interstate 94 at exit 102. If coming from the west it is simply a U-turn off of the interstate right into the ranch. If coming from the east, take a right off of the interstate and go through the underpass and take the first right turn into the ranch. Sale will be at 2:00 PM CDT with lunch served at 12:30. We have produced a number of quality bulls in this program by focusing on certain traits that lead to success. Comprehensive, accurate records are important at Elm Creek, which is reflective in the ranch being many times awarded “Performance Breeder of the Year” (Over 50 head Salers cows). In addition, we cull extensively for maternal traits, specifically fertility, structural integrity, birth weight and milk. The majority of our male over (3/4) calves are marketed in the fall as feeder steers and as such, it is important for us to have a consistent product for the feeder calf buyers. To assure this consistency, we select our AI sires and herd sires based upon (1) disposition, (2) structure, calving ease and (3) phenotype. You will have your chance to pick from the top 1/4 of our bull calf crop at the “Northern Exposure” Sale. We cut all bull calves at branding with birth weights in excess of 90 pounds with the exception of two bulls. With the heavier selection for birth weight we have a reduced number of bulls this year. The bulls were vaccinated Inforce at birth; UltraBac 7 and Bovishield Gold One Shot in April; with Bovishield Gold/One Shot and Seven way with Somubac in July and were boosted with Bovishield Gold 5 and Somuback in September. In addition, they have been poured twice with Clean Up II. The bulls will have received their Fusogard booster prior to sale date. To maintain breeding soundness and structural integrity the bulls were not fed any corn silage. The bulls have been fed a high roughage ration with consistent feed daily intake hand fed at 8/10 of 1% of their body weight maxed out at 10 pounds per day with Bull feed from the “The Mill” (14Bull Performance R40) at Glen Ullin, ND and free choice Baleage (wheat and alfalfa) along with free choice prairie hay. Yearling weights and scrotal measurements were taken January 30, 2026. With gain on test weights were taken on January 30, 2026. All Weaning weights were taken without the benefit of any creep and no creep feed of any kind was ever fed to the calves at any time with the bulls hand fed after weaning. The gain on test period started November 13, 2025 with weight out taken January 30, 2026. After test weights were taken the feed was reduced to 8 pounds per day. The Elm Creek Bulls have had a Breeding Soundness Exam prior to the sale date and will be ready to go to work. Elm Creek Ranch will offer to pay 100% of the insurance premium for mortality insurance (comprehensive risk coverage is available at an additional charge to buyer) for bulls purchased at the sale at a sales price of $15,000 or higher; 75% of the insurance premium on bulls purchased at $10,000 or higher and 50% of bulls purchased with a price over $5,000 of Elm Creek bulls on the date of the sale.. Breeding age bulls sell with semen test and all bulls are guaranteed to be breeders the first breeding season with Breeding Guarantee noted in sale catalog. Bulls which are taken home by buyer(s) on sale date receive a $200 per head discount off purchase price. Bulls not taken on sale day will be delivered within 30 days up to 300 miles at no charge to the buyer. Buyers that wish to leave their bulls beyond the 30 days and up to 60 days will be expected to arrange for their own delivery.
