A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 12

Thank you to all who attended parents evening on Wednesday. We hope you found it helpful talking to the teachers about your child’s progress so far. If you were unable to get an appointment with a subject teacher, please email sixthform@waldegravesch.org and they can pass on your email to the relevant teacher. Last Friday, our A Level Music students paid a visit to the BBC Symphony Orchestra at The Barbican. This trip was the first of many for our Music students, marking the introduction to live concerts. Students enjoyed listening to a distinctive range of music, from works at the heart of classical music to contemporary premieres. On Tuesday the Music students visited the English National Opera to see La Traviata. As they study musical theatre at A level, they were able to compare the differences between opera and musical theatre and what sets them apart. All students really enjoyed the opera. Our A Level Photography students had a photoshoot in Bushy Park on Tuesday. This gave them the opportunity to photograph in a different setting rather than the studio. They were supported by award winning wildlife photographer and Waldegrave Photography teacher, Mr Foker, who helped them achieve the best quality nature photos and develop their skills in nature photography. On Thursday, our Year 12 English students went to see ‘A view from the Bridge’ at The Rose Theatre in Kingston. All students enjoyed the play and said that it was extremely helpful for their A Level course, as they are studying a similar play.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

Tender is the night - F.Scott Fitzgerald

“I want to give a really BAD party. I mean it. I want to give a party where there’s a brawl and seductions and people going home with their feel- ings hurt and women passed out in the cabinet de toilette. You wait and see.”

Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a classic novel set in the 1920s in the French Riviera. Like his more famous novel, The Great Gatsby, it follows the lives of the elite as they strive for influence and power in a changing world. If you want a challenging but rewarding read, I highly recommend this book and Fitzgerald’s other works.
