A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEADTEACHER
KEY SCHOOL DATES
It has been lovely to welcome students back into school following the half term break. Although the days are getting shorter, that has not stopped us packing in as much as we can over the last couple of weeks. There have been a number of trips out of school which have included a trip to the theatre to see A view from the Bridge, a trip to the English National Opera and the Barbican, a trip to

Armistice Day - 11 November Diwali - 12 November
On Wednesday we launched our Parent Promise initiative and are extremely grateful to those parents who have already pledged their support. If you have not had a chance to do so please click here to view the information. This really will make a difference to every child’s experience in school. The annual PTA Christmas Tree sale is being held on Saturday 2 December, further details can be found at the end of the bulletin. We are also accepting donations of unwanted uniform for the Pre-loved Uniform Sale taking place at the same time. Please hand any donations into reception. Today after the Last Post was heard throughout school we marked Armistice Day with a minute’s silence. More than ever we all understand the value of peace as we see so many suffering from terrible conflicts around the world. This weekend also sees many in our school community celebrating Diwali, a festival celebrating the victory of good over evil. I hope that everyone finds a way to illuminate the darkness in the coming weeks.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING
Next week is Anti-Bullying Week and this year’s theme is ‘Make a Noise About Bullying’. The theme aims to highlight how important it is to speak out when we see or hear bullying going on and to encourage everyone to choose respect and unity, even when we disagree. The Anti-Bullying Alliance’s call to action states: Too often, we are silent when we see bullying take place, silent about the hurt bullying causes, and silent when we hear bullying dismissed as ‘just banter’. It doesn’t have to be this way. As a school we will be highlighting Anti-Bullying Week through tutor times, assemblies and PDC lessons. Parents can join us to ‘Make a Noise About Bullying’ by using this Anti-Bullying Week parent toolkit .

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9
It has been another great week at Waldegrave for Year 9. Our Year 9 bake off finalists have now been announced after the interform competitions. Students selected went for their briefing on Wednesday with Ms Ahmed. Ms Ahmed reported that she was incredibly impressed with the finalists maturity and enthusiasm during the morning briefing. I feel sure that this bake off will be the best one yet! I look forward to judging and tasting all of the delicious cakes they make on Monday 13 November! Our assembly this week with Ms Lane focused on ‘Remembrance Day’ considering the reasons why we still honour this day. All students observed a minute of silence today in respect for those that have fought in conflicts to defend our freedom and protect our way of life. On Tuesday 24 students spent the morning participating in the GCHQ National language competition. Thanks to this exciting opportunity, seven wonderful teams of students met in school and pretended to be real life spies, solving mysteries and challenges. All the online challenges were based on the discovery of different cultures and languages. Through the missions that were given to them, students learnt more about the different traditions across the globe and used skills such as logic and teamwork. Well done to the Year 9 Netball team that played against Christ’s last week. Although the team didn’t win, we were all impressed with the incredible teamwork and resilience that was shown. Well done to Isla K for being awarded player of the match. Congratulations to 9EJO for coming top of this week’s epraise leaderboard. They are followed by 9SPI and 9FWD. Year 9 parent’s evening will be held earlier this year, taking place on Wednesday 6 December.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
Once, Now, Then, After... - Morris Gleitzman
“Everybody deserves to have something good in their life at least once.”
The seven book series by Morris Gleitzman is a gripping read surrounding the story of a young Jewish boy during World War Two. He is determined to run away from his orphanage and save his parents from the Nazis. I loved this series because it is very emotional and intriguing. You grow to connect to the characters on a personal level and develop a deeper understanding of what people went through during the war.
