A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 13
Year 13 students returned alongside the rest of the school on Wednesday 1 November after the half term break. I hope they all had the opportunity to rest and revise for the forthcoming mock exams. Last Friday, our A Level Music students paid a visit to the BBC Symphony Orchestra at The Barbican. This trip was the first of many for our Music students, marking the introduction to live concerts. Students enjoyed listening to a distinctive range of music. From works at the heart of classical music to contemporary premieres. On Tuesday the Music students visited the English National Opera to see La Traviata. As they study musical theatre at A level, they were able to compare the differences between opera and musical theatre and what sets them apart. All students really enjoyed the opera. Yesterday, as part of their course, the A Level Photography students were taken to Bushy Park for a photoshoot. Today, all Year 13 students took part in an Assembly as part of Remembrance Day, which was led by the Deputy Headteacher, Ms Lane. All Year 13 students, alongside the rest of the school took part in a one-minute silence, remembering the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life. Looking into next week, mock exams will commence on Monday 13 November. The timetable was shared with students alongside their parents and carers before half term. Students have already been briefed about the expectations during these really important exams. Students are not expected to attend any of their timetabled lessons over the course of next week. However, if they wish to do so, they could come in and meet with their teachers during their normal timetabled lessons, in order to seek support from them, should they deem it necessary. I would like to take this opportunity to wish them all the best of luck. I am confident that their hard work will pay dividends. On Tuesday, between 18:00-20:30, we are hosting our first Festival of Social Sciences in the school’s main Hall. Mr Parker has invited a number of lecturers from Royal Holloway University, who have different specialisms within the field of Social Sciences and will give a number of really interesting talks. This is a free event to attend. There are still a few available tickets should you wish to attend. Please click here to sign up. Both students and parents can attend.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
Tender is the night - F.Scott Fitzgerald
“I want to give a really BAD party. I mean it. I want to give a party where there’s a brawl and seductions and people going home with their feelings hurt and women passed out in the cabinet de toilette. You wait and see.” Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a classic novel set in the 1920s in the French Riviera. Like his more famous novel, The Great Gatsby, it follows the lives of the elite as they strive for influence and power in a changing world. If you want a challenging but rewarding read, I highly recommend this book and Fitzgerald’s other works.
