like us from being run over!” “He always knows when to turn around and go back. I’m really proud of the way he lets the little kids pet him—that is, those who aren’t too afraid of his homely face to get close to him,” said Mark. Bruce looked very thoughtful. “ Beepo sure proves you don’t have to be good-looking to be loved, does n’t he?” . Mark was serious too. “ Yes, just good and unselfish. I guess the very best way to have folks love you is to be unselfish.” Bruce nodded. “Yes, and being unselfish just means not thinking of yourself at all . . . but thinking of someone else. Boy, if a dog can learn that, surely a couple of guys ought to be able to!” The boys moved over to the sleep ing dog and gave him a big hug which woke him up. As they picked up their school books, he followed them into the house. “ I’m going to mow the grass,” said Mark. “And I’ll see what Mother wants me to get at the store,” stated Bruce. * * * * $ Bruce and Mark did not realize that they were putting into prac tice the very quality they had ad mired in their dog, for God can put unselfishness, self-forgetfulness, in our hearts so that the outward ex pression of it will be natural. Dear boys and girls, there is One Who was completely upselfish, our Lord Jesus Christ. It is written in Romans 15:3: “ . . . Christ pleased not himself.” He loved us so much that He gave His life for us to save us from our sins and from living just for ourselves. Let us ask Him to make us like Himself. e n d .
