I then asked where the Bible had something to say about God. No one knew—for sure. At this point I in troduced them to a concordance and we spent some time in class work ing with one. Then I gave each member a Cruden’s Concordance and , a three-ring notebook with plenty of paper. (Some students later paid for these concordances— the local church paid for the others.) From week to week we studied the Bible in one-and-one-half-hour periods. They made the suggestions. I selected what was appropriate to follow through in our quest for truth in the Scriptures. All the time I knew where we were going but the young people were supplying the creative ideas. In 28 weeks we went through the Bible in a way that fascinated the boys and girls. They were so enthusiastic about studying the Bi ble and asking questions that it kept me busy keeping ahead of them. The memory projects were eagerly accepted because they suggested them. The written work was well done because they loved it. One of the parents declared after a few weeks that he had never stud ied the Bible so much at home all his life as he had on the evenings when his boy came home with loads of questions which the group had created in their own discussion. The teacher of young people must begin where they are living and lead them step by step into the Bible. The teacher must know the answers, but he should not share the answers until the youths ask the questions. In a nut shell: the teacher must guide the pupils into the truth, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come” (John 16:13). If one is to guide young people in Bible study, he must have trav eled the path of Bible knowledge ahead of the followers. If one is to succeed in teaching the Bible to young people, he must know and love the Bible and make it mean ingful and interesting to his youth ful followers. Try it and you will love it! END.
