Matt. 25:40, 41. PRACTICAL POINTS I. Note the specific point of Nehemiah’s prayer, Neh. 1: God caused him to find ‘"mercy” in : (1) Making the king sympathetic instead of fearsome at his sad­ ness. (2) In opening the King’s heart to grant all his desire. (3) Making the King, willing to give him a long furlough. (4) In providing him passports through otherwise enemy coun­ tries. (5) In providing substantial material help for his enterprise. ( 6 ) In affording him military protec­ tion for his perilous journey. So Nehemiah’s prayer was fully answered. ?. .Sadness in a king’s presence implies the king’s inability to help: Therefore, Ps. 100:1, 2. 3. Nehemiah’s sickness was heart sickness because it was homesickness. 4. There is always time to call on God before answering man. Give the human mediator his due—but don’t forget the “good hand of God.” 6 . If you would make the Devil mad, seek the good of Israel.
