tant where the other temple was in which his mother and brothers lived. Gladly they went, rejoicing as they tramped along. God went with them and worked through them, the mother and brothers all received their testimony and gave their hearts to Jesus Christ. All their idolatrous paraphernalia was burned completely, and the entire fam ily joined in glad praises to the living God. Mr. Yang’s original name, the given name “ Chia Chu” , means a family pil lar, so he was Yang, the family pillar, but he changed his name to “ Tsung Tao” , which means literally “ Following the Doctrine” , but doctrine in that sense really means Gospel, so it is fair to translate it “ Following the Gospel” , or “ A follower of the Gospel” , so Yang Chia Chu, i. e., Yang the Family Pillar, became Yang Tsung Tao, i. e. Yang the Follower of the Gospel. Let us join in earnest prayer that he may follow the Gospel with ever increasing zeal and love. Does the Work Pay? As you have read this story have you thought what Yang’s condition might still be if our Biola Evangelistic Band had not gone to Tsingchow? It is not at all likely that he would ever have gone into a church. There was only one way to reach him, namely to go to him. Then there are the aged, the sick and many other classes of people in China who will never hear except in this one way, going to them, going to the far distant villages, going to the mountain hamlets, going to the people right in their homes, or shops, or fields, or tem ples, wherever we can find them, seek ing the lost and telling them of Jesus, One Mighty to save. He said: “ God has mani fested His holiness to me, and my whole being is in distress. I have determined to believe in Jesus, for as this tract says, ‘Apart from Jesus there is no other way of salvation’, and I have come this morning to ask you to go with me and destroy all my idols, and all the books and other things connected with my former practices.” He said that with all his heart he believed in Jesus and that through faith in Him he was a saved man. Fearing that he might be acting on a mere impulse our evangel ists urged him to wait a few days before destroying his idols, but he insisted on doing it at once. The men had a long and earnest talk with Mr. Yang, and when thoroughly convinced of his sin cerity and the reality of his purpose tliey decided to go with him. First of all they knelt in prayer and after sev eral had led in prayer Mr. Yang also led in prayer, confessing his sins, and acknowledging Jesus Christ as his Saviour. He at once began to give public testimony to his faith, and Urged others to believe in the Saviour he had found. He said that great peace and joy filled his heart. His stock of heathen books and idols amounted to about one hundred dollars, but without any hesi tation he destroyed -them all. Out After Others Having thus declared his faith, Mr. Yang urged our evangelists to go with him to a village about four miles dis
