about Jesus and that He was coming, but they had not come to know Him, and even many who had lived and seen Him did not know that He was God’s Son, and so John the Baptist tells who Jesus is; that He is God’s Son who came to save people from their sin. John told the people just how wicked they were, and of course people do not like to be told of the sin in their lives, but John knew it was right to tell them the truth, whether they liked it or not. The people who first heard him told others and they went to hear John preach and tell of Jesus. The crowds grew larger out there be side the Jordan river. John was a strange looking preacher, dressed in his rough coat made of camel’s hair,, belted with a leather belt. Many people be lieved his words about the coming of Jesus. They were truly sorry for their sins, sorry enough to give them up. John baptized these people with water, which showed that they had given up their sin and wished to be pure and „ clean inside. Those who were bap tized showed they believed John’s mes sage, and wished to be ready tor the coming Saviour. John was very care ful to say that he himself was not the one who should come. The people must look for another, greater than the messenger who told about Him. John said, “ There cometh one that is might ier than I.” This is our memory verse, and we must remember John’s words, that Jesus is the only Saviour that can save us from our sin, because He is God’s Son. There are a great many different kinds of religion in the world, and many places called churches, but only those who believe that Jesus is God’s Son, and that He died on the cross to save us from our sin, and rose again from the grave, and will take Him to be their Lord and Saviour, can be saved and go to heaven to live with this Jesus, that John the Baptist told about. Lesson Story.— Jennie, can you tell us about the story we had a little while ago how an angel came to a man in the temple and told him God was go ing to send a little boy baby to their home, and that his name was to be John? We know what a happy home this was when little baby John came to live in it, and today we are to learn something more about this same John who has grown up to be a man, and they called him John the Baptist be cause he baptized the people when they believed in Jesus. Now, many of the people living in the world at the time ot our story had heard that God was going to send His Son into the world, for God had told them in His word, the Bible, through His faithful prophets and preachers. At this time there were many wicked people in the world, and John was faithful as he preached to them and told the'm of their sin and that they must be sorry for their sin, and be baptized; this meant that they believed in Jesus and trusted in Him as their Saviour.
