(6) But ye shall be named the Priests of the Lord: men shall call you the Minis- ters of our God: ye shall oat the riches o f the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves. (7) F or your shame ye shall have dou­ ble: and for confusion they shall re­ joice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess tne double; everlasting jo y shall be unto them. (8) For I the Lord love ju d g­ ment, I hate robbery for burnt offer­ ing; and I w ill direct their w ork in truth, and I w ill make an everlast­ ing covenant w ith them. The prophecy is definite, well worthy our consideration and simple in its outline, although wonderful in its detail. (1) CHRIST’S FIRST COMING, vs. 1 , 2 . These two verses contain a prediction of the two advents of our Lord, which is illuminated by reading the fourth chap­ ter of Luke where we have the account of Jesus’ visit to Nazareth following His baptism and temptation. He is pictured as standing in the synagogue on the Sabbath Day, standing in the midst of His friends and life-long acquaintances with this prophecy of Isaiah in His rands, and reading the portion assigned lor the day. When He came to this pass­ age (and remember the manuscript from which He read was not divided into verses as we have it) He read as fol­ lows: “The Spirit of tie Lord Is upon me, because be hath anointed me to preach the wn.nal to tlio *

' (1) The Spirit o f the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to pro­ claim liberty to the captives, and the opening o f the prison to them that are bound; (2) To proclaim the a c­ ceptable year o f the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our Lod; to com fort all that mourn; (3) To ap­ point unto them that mourn in Zion, to giv© unto them beauty fo r ashes, the oil o f jo y for mourning, the garment o f praise for the spirit of heaviness that they m ight be called trees of righteousness, the plant- ing of the Lord, that he m ight be glorified. (4) And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the form er desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many gen ­ erations. They must never be juggled to teach something they are not intended to teach. It is unfortunate BESSON that the Lesson Com- EXPOSITION mittee should take a T. C. Horton passage such: as this with which to give em­ phasis to the cause of world-wide pro­ hibition. We believe in prohibition. We have always believed in it, and have paid the price for such belief gladly. But to turn and twist these verses and try to make them apply to a possible condition to be brought about by prohibition is unfair and unjust to God’s Word. The Holy Spirit has a message here of great moment, but of such magnitude and so far reaching that it would be
