which speaketh blasphem ies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone? (22) But when Jesus perceived • their thoughts, he answering said unto them. What reason ye in your hearts? (23) Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and w alk ? (24) But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to fo r give sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy), I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. (25) And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifyin g God. The opening scene is interesting. It is in Capernaum, no doubt in t;he home of some man of note, for the gathering included Pharisees and doctors of the law from all of the surrounding towns, some sitting in the house and some gathered about the doors. (19) And when they could not find by what way they m ight bring him in because of the multitude, they went through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus. (20 1 And when he saw their faith, he said, unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. (21) And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying. Who is this (1) Power of Faith. (2) Practical Faith. (3) Persevering Faith. (4) Perceiving Faith. 1 (F) Paralysis and Proof of Faith. (1) POWER OF FAITH. “ And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.” Here is a beautiful and practical pic ture, full of suggestive LESSON lessons on soul-win- EXPOSITION ning — adaptable and T. C. Horton applicable to young and old equally,— and a lesson on the value and necessity of sym pathy. Sympathy is “ fellow-feeling” and “ fellow-feeling makes us wondrous kind.” Any teacher who learns the art of picture-painting will never lack for at tentive listeners and here is a story— a genuine, graphic, Gospel incident which will cajry the scholar along while you put in the rainbow colors of faith, and the dark clouds of unbelief, hav ing in the foreground (as you always Theme: “ Fellow-feeling.” Outline:
