State Library Windows on Collections Operation VeteranAssist

For 165 years State Library Victoria has collected books, maps, ephemera, objects and artworks on almost every subject you can think of, with a special focus on Victoria. The State Collection includes almost 5.5 million items which provide a vital window into the past and record of contemporary life. Window on Collections is our new series of displays - from full galleries to surprising pop-ups - that give you a glimpse of what we're collecting and why. Our first Window on Collections is the Rural and Regional Photography Commission, a poignant series of photographs that document the year that was 2020 in regional Victoria. Captured through a local lens, these images share moments of regional life and its challenges in this extraordinary time. Discover more in our online gallery or see the series on display in the Victoria Gallery until January 2022. We need your support to expand this project in 2021 and capture more stories from across the state. Help us Focus on country Victoria while these experiences are still vivid. What are the unique issues facing rural and regional Victorians? What do our communities hope for and how will recent events shape the future? The events of 2020 have had a tremendous impact on rural and regional Victorians, with years of drought culminating in a devastating bushfire season, followed by the arrival of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Operation Veteran Assist is seeking donations to fund: Chainsaw maintenance - fuel / chains / oil Veterans - food / water / supplies Hawthorn sub Branch

Operation Veteran Assist is a veteran - led response to the bushfires that have ravaged Australia over the 2019 / 2020 summer. Veterans are a natural fit to lead disaster response operations and are experienced, comfortable with and very used to dealing with adversity. Veterans are natural leaders in the community and are trained to operate in this type of disaster. The initial response will be into East Gippsland where the Royal Australian Navy is engaged evacuating civilians, the Royal Australian Air Force is dropping supplies to impacted communities and the Australian Army is supporting local authorities with a suite of capabilities. Operation Veteran Assist relies on the generosity of veterans and their families for funding this operation. Funding requirements are used for costs of chainsaw maintenance such as fuel, chains and oil, and veterans requirements of food, water and supplies enabling support to the veterans and their families impacted in these devastating fires. Donations to Operation Veteran Assist are via the Hawthorn RSL Sub - Branch who have generously provided Operation Veteran Assist with a $ 750 donation. 100 % of donations are spent on veterans, veteran families, in communities impacted by these bushfires. The link to their donation page ( PayPal enabled and secured ) is here and we ask that you add the note - OpVetAssist - so that your donation can be accurately and correctly accounted for.
