As embers started to rain down on his property near Buchan, Donald Graham grabbed a small picture off the wall of his house and ran into a concrete bunker to shelter with his wife. a lithograph, created 153 years ago by a colonial artist who sat on the same hill where the Grahams live and That picture was captured the stunning view up the valley, at the spot where the Snowy and Buchan rivers meet. Now, all the 68-year-old can see from the hill is ash and the black trunks of burnt forest. A blaze swept through the small East Gippsland community on the night of December 30, destroying 24 homes in the area.
