Usage

You must use leave under the NJ SAFE Act in the 12-month period immediately following an instance of domestic violence or a sexually violent offense. The unpaid leave may be taken intermittently in intervals of no less than one day. You may use any accrued paid vacation leave, personal leave, medical or sick leave, or any family temporary disability leave benefits during any part of the 20-day period of unpaid leave. The unpaid leave will run concurrently with any paid vacation leave, personal leave, medical or sick leave, or temporary disability benefits that you elect to use. If you request leave for a reason covered by both the NJ SAFE Act and the Family Leave Act, or the federal Family and Medical Leave Act, the leave will count simultaneously against your entitlement under each respective law.
