These products can be utilised in a number of industries such as the petrochemical industry, aerospace, renewable & non-renewable energy, ceramics industry, metallurgical industry, sugar reneries and the glass industry. History Bristol has been a thriving centre for trade and commerce for many hundreds of years, exporting and importing with the British Commonwealth, Europe and the Americas. The exchange of goods is often accompanied by the exchange of ideas which in turn stimulate rapid innovation in all areas of economic activity. Fire cement is thought to have been rst manufactured in Bristol in 1882. Furthermore, with the Industrial Revolution and the invention of the blast furnace, the demand for refractory materials has increased. Vitcas has maintained Bristol’s long tradition, by being the international and transatlantic manufacturer and trader of high temperature resistant refractory products. Starting with the best of the traditional formulations and incorporating new discoveries and techniques where they oer improvements, we have developed a comprehensive range of refractory products including castables, mouldables, cements and mortars to meet the needs of modern industries. QUALITY ASSURANCE
Vitcas is committed to minimising our impact on the environment. Through continuous improvement of our formulations and processes, we strive to reduce our use of raw materials and energy. Our product design and development also factors in how we can help our customers achieve their environmental targets with, for example, enhanced insulation materials which reduce their energy consumption. We have an established Environmental Management System which is accredited to BS EN ISO 14001:2015. HEALTH & SAFETY Many of our products are used to protect those working in high temperature environments, so health and safety considerations are always at the forefront of our thinking. We continually work to identify and mitigate risks to our employees, visitors, customers and the end users of our products with the aim of achieving an injury free environment. Our Health and Safety Management System is integral to our business policies and practices and is accredited to OHSAS 18001:2007.

REFRACTORY CASTABLES
Conventional dense castables are created with high alumina cement, and can withstand temperatures from 1300 o C to 1850 o C. These refractory castables are great for common furnace applications, burner blocks, speciality mue furnaces and other work. Resistance is a key quality that varies with the choice of materials, resulting in resistance to abrasion, thermal shock and slag attack. Casting and gunning techniques are the method of installing the materials. For the ease of castable placement, gunning materials and water are combined together at the gunning equipment’s nozzle. This is a great method of placement for bulk materials, in cases when circumstances make formwork overly time consuming or simply impractical. In general, the method of installation will depend on cost and accessibility. CONVENTIONAL DENSE CASTABLES
Refractory castables can be used to create the monolithic linings within all types of furnaces and kilns. They can be further classied into the following sub-categories: conventional, low iron, low cement, insulating and gunning mixes. There is a wide variety of raw materials that refractory castables are derived from, including chamotte, andalusite, bauxite, mullite, corundum, tabular alumina, silicon carbide, and both perlite and vermiculite can be used for insulation purposes. CASTABLES & GUNNING MIXES
Another product that we supply is the castable refractories that are low density. These insulating castables pose very low thermal conductivity and are utilized for either high temperature face work or when used for a backup lining, which is found behind dense castables or brick work. Here, the insulating castables are able to decrease the lining’s overall density or the cold face temperature. Their strength, which ranges from low to medium, is based on the fact that their density is low and is the main reason that they are not resistant to abrasion. They are most suitable where they do not have to stand up to much wear and tear. INSULATING CASTABLES
This type of refractory castable is prepared with a lower amount of cement than the standard dense castable is normally created with. Low cement castable refractories uctuate in alumina content, which provides exceptional physical properties, including low porosity, great abrasion properties and high vigour. These products will commonly necessitate installation that is controlled, however, the big advantage of low cement castables is that they are easily pumped into position, and some may not require vibration, because they are free owing. LOW CEMENT CASTABLES
VITCAST 1400LCC - AL
VITCAST 1400LCC
VITCAST 1600LCC This material can also be used for pre-cast shapes like 1400LCC but additionally can be used for burner quarls, ladle linings, top ring blocks around the open tops of brick lined vessels and the upper side walls in aluminium melting furnaces.
Bauxite based low cement castable developed specifically for use with molten aluminium. It contains an additive which reduces wetting in contact with molten aluminium and therefore resists corundum growth.
A versatile low cement castable often used for pre-cast shapes to replace special shaped firebricks. Examples are pre-cast interlocking tiles for boilers and for periphery blocks on kiln car bases.

REFRACTORY MOULDABLE & RAM MIXES
REFRACTORY PLASTIC MOULDABLES
When castables refractories and refractory brick are simply too complicated or cumbersome and formwork is unavailable, refractory plastic mouldables are a great solution. Our expansive selection of refractory plastics can be used for a wide array of applications. Plastic refractory moldables possess excellent strength and high density, as well as abrasion, slag and spall resistance. They are also resistant to molten metals, which makes them perfect for applications such as boiler work, forge furnaces, tundish linings, ladle linings, burner blocks and patches. The products that we carry in stock are refractory plastics which are high alumina and chemical/heat setting and include a phosphate bond as well as a heat set plastic accompanied by a clay bond. Refractory plastic mouldable is normally placed using either a pneumatic hammer or a bricklayer’s hammer, building the material up to the approximate size that is required. The face of the plastic refractory, which is left rough on the face to enable eortless removal of moisture, is then whittled down to the exact size and shape desired. Next, the work can be vented and can either be red directly after placement to eliminate moisture or simply allowed to sit in one spot untouched to harden. We carry the standard Heat Setting and Chemical/Heat Setting plastics and would be happy to provide dry ramming when requested.

INSULATION FIREBRICKS
The Vitcas ® range of Insulation Firebricks are made from specially formulated high-purity refractory clays with varying alumina contents in a manufacturing process which results in a controlled pore structure. They are much less dense and therefore lighter in weight than fireclay bricks. The low thermal mass makes them most suitable for situations where heat storage is to be avoided.
Examples of Applications:
Key Features:
• Primary hot face linings • Back-up insulation for furnaces and kilns • Flue insulation • Sulphur recovery equipment • Hot blast stoves
• Low iron content • Resistance to thermal shock • Low density • Low heat storage • High insulating properties • Energy saving
