Bobst Reflects On 2022 Innovations, Tangible Solutions For 2023 Jean-Pascal Bobst, CEO of Mex, Switzerland based Bobst reflected recently on the past year and his insights for the future of the packaging industry as connectivity, digitaliza- tion, automation, and sustainability are becoming the cor- nerstones of packaging production. “The response to the economic instability, local con- flicts, the global supply chain challenges, human resource shortages, and the energy crisis made it clear to us, and to our customers, that a vision is necessary for the business to be successful,” Bobst said. As the company’s industry vision came to life in what was a challenging year, Bobst said the company navigated through it with confidence as it helped customers do the same despite delays which caused some disruption. “We have done our upmost to keep both the satisfac- tion and the intimacy with our clients at the highest level,” he said. In addition to its machine line, BOBST is now adding intelligence and software capabilities in efforts to make packaging production better than ever. At the heart of BOBST’s solutions in 2022 was BOBST Connect, which brings machine insights and digital services together in one cloud-based platform. “With BOBST Connect, our customers get a fact-based overview of the production performance, maintenance and process, and they can orchestrate it,” said Leonard Badet, Head of Group Technology at BOBST. “They bene- fit from accurate Overall Equipment Efficiency, get specific equipment data and get interfaces to connect to their ex- isting software.” In folding carton, Bobst launched ACCUCHECK Recipe Management, which allows users to create and edit reci- pes remotely within the BOBST Connect platform and to send them on the production floor. In corrugated board, the MASTERCUT 1.65 PER diecutter features a combina- tion of tools and technologies that reflect and support the company’s vision in terms of automation, connectivity and sustainability. Bobst also worked on three “axes” to minimize the im- pact price increases and supply chain instability had on its customers. The company put in place a dedicated sup- ply chain team with engineers, sourced alternative suppli- ers to reduce order delays, and introduced a new way of assembling machines, improving the availability of main parts, especially the platen, and preventing delays for final order. “We have executed on our vision relentlessly, and it has paid off,” Bobst said. “Looking ahead to next year, 2023 will be year of consolidation for the industry, but the jour- ney ahead, together with our clients and partners, is de- fined. Our solutions will turn into tangible improvements for most of our machine portfolio. The packaging industry has a great future.”
