triangle which speaks of His being one of the Persons of the Trinity. In Luke 2:40 we read, “ And the child grew, and w#xed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.” We will unfold this paper again, to find the same circle and the same triangle, with the picture of the Boy Jesus inside the triangle. As a baby and as a boy, He was the eternal Son of God. Opening the paper again, we find the circle and the triangle, speaking of eter nity and the Trinity, with the picture of the Man Christ Jesus in it. Even though the Lord Jesus grew from babyhood to manhood, He was always the eternal Son olf God, the second Person of the Trinity. Jan. 23, 1949 A S ig h t S e rm o n Object: A quart fruit jar filled with water. Lesson: I brought a preacher with me this morning who will preach a silent sermon. This preacher does not speak, but preaches one of the most wonderful sermons in all the world. Here he is—Mr. Fruit Jar. Notice, he has a mouth, and yet he cannot speak. You are wondering how this jar can preach a sermon, but you have not no ticed that it was filled with water. Before Christ entered His public min istry He was baptized by John in the river Jordan. In Matthew 3:16, 17 we read, “ And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God de scending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, say ing, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Before Christ returned to heaven, He told His disciples that they should go into all the world and preach the gospel, baptizing the people that believed. Bap tism has been preaching a silent sermon for nearly two thousand years. Now let us ask ourselves the ques tion, “What is this silent preacher— Baptism—trying to teach us?” First of all, it speaks to us of the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. The people of the world need to know of the death of Christ for their sins. They need to know of His resur rection from the dead, which showed that God had accepted His sacrifice on the cross. This is not all this wonderful preacher would tell us this morning. Baptism J A N U A R Y , 1 9 4 9

teaches us that all Christians are dead with Christ—that the old sinful life is a ' thing of the past—and that they are raised from the dead with Christ, to walk in newness of life. Let us never forget these wonderful truths about bap tism which Mr. Fruit Jar has told us.

velopes. Cut a piece of tin to fit the large envelope. Place the papers and tin in the envelopes as indicated later and seal. With crayons lightly color one envelope black, another red, and another yellow, leaving one white. Put a red cross on the front of the large envelope.) Lesson: These four envelopes are to remind us of the four races of earth— the red, the yellow, the black, and the white people. There is one thing in which all races are alike—when tempted they are all shown to be sinners. We will test these envelopes by tearing them open. We will test the white one first, which represents the white race. When I tear it open, I find black on the inside, remind ing us of sin. People sin because there is sin in their hearts. Next, we will tear open the red en velope, which reminds us of the Indians. On the inside of this envelope we find yellow, reminding us of fear. We often speak of' a coward as being yellow. Many sinners of all races are encouraged to sin because they fear what their friends will say if they do not. We will now open the yellow envelope. It has blue on the inside. Many sinners sin because they feel blue or sad. The black envelope tears as easily as the rest, and green is the color we find in it. We often speak of ignorant people as being “green.” There are many people the world around who sin because of ignorance. The large envelope refuses to tear. I am not surprised when I turn it over and see on the other side a red cross which represents Christ. We are told that Jesus was tempted of the devil in the wilderness without sinning. This temptation proved that He was the sin less Son of God. Hebrews 4:15,16 says, “ For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
