Born in Kwa-Thema on the East Rand, Xolani Sedibe had not only a zest to start his own creative marketing company, but the work ethic to build it. At just 31, the eLearning Developer at Digify Africa and founder of Do What You Love Agency has a wealth of experience under his belt. “I was very active in school as I did a lot of sports and cultural stuff. Things that took up most of my attention and time were music and hockey” he said, speaking about his time as a student at UJ. Sedibe enrolled and studied towards a BCom in Information Management. Upon graduating, he started his

own business by carving his journey as an entrepreneur. Sedibe elaborates:

I didn’t willingly choose to go into Information Management, because initially I wanted to study IT Management or a BSc in Computer Science but unfortunately I couldn’t make it for any of these so on the day of registration, I had to choose to either be on the waiting list as one of the courses were full, or go into a different course. That is how I ended up with Information Management as it was the closest thing to the tech stuff I wanted to do. While it took him five years to complete his three-year degree, Sedibe stayed determined. Part of the reason why his studies took a while was that he wanted to bring his digital agency to life, working on it while studying. “I knew I wanted to start a business because my passion had always been entrepreneurship. I had a business from an early age, selling stuff from the age of 12,” he shared. This drove him to establish Do What You Love Agency, which is named after the second album of the band The Muffinz, because he was inspired by the group upon meeting them on campus. On whether he currently sees growth in the digital marketing space, Sedibe is excited by what he sees:

in student life on campus. He added that if you’re a musician and you have released music, you can create your design, upload it on their platform www.houseofwaxx. co.za, set your price and they will promote, sell, produce, and deliver directly to your fans, all you get will be profit.

I think the industry is growing very well and there is a lot of innovation we are seeing. I’m seeing a lot of boutique agencies as people are doing different kinds of things in terms of digital marketing. On his experience at UJ, Sedibe said the Do What You Love Agency is his UJ experience packaged into a business and service. He joined The Music Society and was involved
