Salome Barker, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Nashua Group
Salome Barker is the CFO of the Nashua Group, which celebrates its 50 th year of existence in 2023. Prior to her joining the Reunert Group as CFO for another business unit in the group called ECNin 2012, she completed her articles at Deloitte to qualify as a Chartered Accountant in 2009. She states: I am very proud of the company I work for and I love my job. In my role I am part of designing and implementing the strategy across the Nashua Group consisting of 43 businesses and employing around 2 500 people across Southern Africa. We are busy with some very exciting projects. I am meeting with amazing people every day and always learning something new. Salome graduated from UJ with a BComHons in Accounting with cum laude in 2006, and in 2007 she worked as a tax academic article clerk at UJ. “The highlight of my time at UJ was my Honours year. We had fantastic lecturers, and I really enjoyed my studies.” Salome says she was always set on going to university. Both her parents have university degrees and they always made sure she realised the value of obtaining a good qualification: When I started high school I selected accounting as a choice subject, as I really enjoyed the subject. My dad always said that having a degree in accounting opens many different career opportunities and this was a big part of the reason for my decision. Born and raised in Johannesburg, Salome went to a small primary school, Nooitgedacht 88, near Lanseria airport, then attended Fourways High School, where she matriculated in 2002. Salome puts her heart and soul into all she does: Whether it be at home, at work or studying, I always give it my all. I believe in hard work, dedication, and commitment. I also believe in understanding people, and their reasons for doing the things they do and trying to see the world from their perspectives. I believe in continuous improvement. I believe that every day is an opportunity to learn something new. I believe in making a difference and adding value.
