As a surf destination Papua New Guinea is relatively new to surfers. You might be surprised to find that breaks here are just as challenging and exhilarating as in any other location. PNG has fantastic surfing potential from December to April (wet season) – not to mention breathtaking scenery and pristine coastal atolls – along thousands of kilometres of coastline just waiting to be explored. PNG enjoys warm waters and consistent waves complemented by the rich and diverse traditional cultures of its people in each Madang, New Ireland, National Capital , and Central provinces . PNG surfing surpasses international approaches to sustainability and longevity. Working together, the Surf Association of PNG (SAPNG), in conjunction with the surf industry, surf destination: Sandaun, Sepik, tourism operators and traditional reef custodians, has developed a unique system of Surf Management Plans
surf clubs and the sport itself, as well as generating an
income stream for the custodial communities.

You can kitesurf in PNG from late May through to November while the laurabada (south-east) trade winds provide consistent 10-25 knot winds. Areas around Port Moresby and Milne Bay have optimal conditions and stunning scenery. The reef breaks create top action for the wave rider while the pristine blue lagoons will lure flat-water fans. Just 15 minutes from Port Moresby, Sero Beach’s large lagoon gives way to a surf break 500m out, while Fisherman’s Island is 20 minutes away and one of the best

local spots to kitesurf. Two hours down the coast is Hula , a large peninsula that receives the brunt of laurabada winds, creating the perfect environment for kitesurfing.
