cross on the side. Before the lesson, allow two of the needles to become magnetized through contacting each of the prongs of the magnet. Let the two needles touch each other in the contact.) LESSON: Can you tell by looking at these needles which ones are like un saved people? By just looking at them separately it is impossible to tell, but it is easy when you see how they behave toward each other. When you see how they act, you will have no difficulty in determining which ones are like Christians. The first two cling together. They appear to love each other. What do you think could be the reason for their unusual attrac tion for each other? “They have been magnetized.” You are right. They were once as lifeless as these other needles. The contact with this magnet changed them. The magnet is white and has a red cross on its side, reminding us of the Lord Jesus Christ. When a person comes to Him, and accepts Him as Saviour, that person has an entirely different attitude toward others. Now these needles remind us of Christians. They are like Christians who can obey the command of Christ when He said, “But I say unto you, Love your ene mies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust” (Matt. 5:44,45).

(Remove the bottom from the pint bottle by tying a string near the bottom. Saturate the string with kero sene or alcohol. Light the string, and after the flame has burned around the bottle, submerge the bottle in cold water. The glass will crack where the string has burned. Stick one candle in the center of one pan by melting the base. Stick the other can dle in the center of the piece of rubber, and place in the other pan.) LESSON: Bill and Bob Bottle are to be your teachers this morning. They have a very important lesson. Like Christian people, these brothers both have lights. (Light each candle and pour the pans neafly full of inked water.) This black water reminds us of the sinful world in which the Christian’s light is supposed to shine. I am sorry to say that many Chris tians are like Bill. (Put the quart bottle upside down over the candle

Mortal Musings ' Y ou are the sweetest mortal I’ve ever laid my eyes on,” Mother told her baby as she held him close. “Why do you call Mark mortal? What does mortal mean?” Doro- theann inquired. “That’s a good question,” Moth er stalled as she sought wisdom from her Father to answer the 10- year-old. “We use the word mortal when we speak of human beings, dear. It is the contrast word, the direct opposite to immortal which means 1 not subject to death. If immortal means not subject to death what would you say is the meaning of mortal?” “ It must mean we’ll die, or be subject to death as you put it. Is that right?” “That’s correct, although I must tell you truthfully that I am not thinking of Mark dying when I call him mortal. Death is some thing we do not allow ourselves to think about when we see such a precious, healthy, well-formed ba by. It seems very remote, but I do know it is a very real possi bility. Death is inevitable until Jesus Christ reigns in the human heart. When men accept Him as Saviour they have the possibility of missing death by being caught up with other believers, both dead and living, to meet the Lord in the air. This is called the Rapture. Open your Bible to Hebrews 9:27 and read that verse aloud.” “ It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judg ment.” “The only way we’ll miss that appointment to die is by taking Christ as our personal Saviour from sin. He met that appointment for us who believe, when He died on the cross. His resurrection is a promise that “ this mortal must put on immortality,” and that “ . . . death is swallowed up in victory” (1 Cor. 15:53,54). Isn’t that a wonderful hone, Dorotheann?” “Yes it is, Mother, and I’m glad I’m saved. I want to help others to look forward to immortality.”

which is fastened to the rubber. Press the bottle firmly against the rubber. Bill’s light soon goes out. When a Christian does not let his light shine, the sin of the world soon enters his life. See! The black rushes in. (With the finger, break the seal, and the vacuum caused by the burning can dle will suck the water into the bot tle.) Bob’s light bums brightly. Here is the secret. (Put your finger through the open bottom.) He keeps the door open toward heaven. He is like the person who reads his Bible and prays every day. In Acts 8:4-6 we read, “Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word. Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.” The early Christians let their lights shine for Christ. Notice what happens when I close Bob’s door toward heaven. (Put the bottom back on the bottle.) The light grows dim. When the door is opened again, the light bums brightly. Keep the door open toward heaven, and let your light shine into the lives of others. END.

These other needles remind us of unsaved people. Notice that they have no attraction for each other. They are cold and lifeless. They are like people, who, not having come to Christ as Saviour, think it is very strange that Christians should love each other. Sept. 26, 1954 A L i v i n g L i g h t OBJECTS: Two milk bottles a (quart and a pint), two candles, two shal low pans, a small piece of rubber tire tube large enough to cover the mouth of the quart bottle, and about a pint of water colored with black ink.
