ACCESS TOMEDICAL RECORDS AND REPORT

AIRSIDE MEDICAL Airside health assessments are a vital tool to ensure that employees working in airport operations do not have any medical conditions that could affect the safety of themselves, other people or the aircraft. Includes: • Audiometry

ASBESTOS MEDICAL Any employees who start work with asbestos after 1st May 2015must first undergo amedical examination unless a suitable examination has been carried out in the previous two years (for licensed work) or three years (for non-licensedwork). Work is classed as licensed if employees are undertaking regular asbestos demolition/stripping work. Employees will need follow up examinations every two years whilst the exposure continues. Non-licensed work will generally apply to most construction workers whomay come into occasional contact with asbestos. Employees will need follow upmedical examinations at intervals of nomore than three years whilst the exposure continues. Includes:

AUDIOMETRY Audiometric testing is mandatory for all employees who are exposed to noise levels of 85dBa or above daily. It is recommended that audiometric testing commences before the employee is exposed to noise in order to set a baseline. An audiometric test should then be undertaken annually for the first two years, then every three years after that. Includes: • Audiometry assessment • Ear examination • Screening questionnaire

BIOLOGICAL MONITORING If an employee is exposed to chemicals during their daily employment, then they must undertake biological monitoring in order to assess and limit the amount of chemicals they’re exposed to. Biological monitoring should be undertaken when there is a risk that chemicals are absorbed through the skin, where controls rely on the use of personal protective equipment and if an employee uses hazardous chemicals during their daily employment. Includes: • Biological monitoring kit (urine) The employee will then send their urine sample to the laboratory for testing in our pre-paid packs. If the test results show that there is an above trace we will advise a re-test and work with them to advise their control methods.

BLOOD TESTING Certain industries or job roles may

require their employees to undergo blood testing to either monitor their exposure to certain substances or to coincide with a course of injections that provide immunity to certain illnesses.

COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY (CBT)

CONFINED SPACE MEDICAL It's an employer's duty to ensure that any employees who work in confined spaces are not exposed to any health risks. A confined space is one that is largely enclosed and there is a risk of explosion, loss of consciousness, asphyxiation or drowning. Includes: • Audiometry

CBT is a talking therapy that can help a personmanage their problems by changing the way they think or behave. CBT is most commonly used to treat anxiety and depression but can be useful for other mental and physical health problems.

CONSTRUCTING BETTER HEALTHMEDICAL (CBH)

COUNSELLING Psychological wellbeing is just as important as physical wellbeing when wanting to create and promote a healthy workforce. We’re able to provide counselling following critical incidents, workplace trauma, performance issues or any personal concerns that are impacting your employees’ wellbeing.

CBH is a member led organisation whose purpose is to ensure the fitness standards of those working within the construction industry. Once an employee has completed their medical, we will upload their results to the CBH database who will issue a CBH certification card if they successfully passed their medical. D4 HGV MEDICAL A D4 HGV medical is required as part of the drivers license testing for those who drive a vehicle over 3.5 tonnes or whose vehicle has 8 or more passenger seats. It is important to note that we cannot make the final decision as to whether your employee is fit to drive a commercial vehicle, it is the decision of the DVLA. Includes:

DISPLAY SCREEN EQUIPMENT ASSESSMENT (DSE)

As an employer it is your responsibility to protect your employees from any health risks that come fromworking with DSE. If an employee uses DSE daily for an hour or more at a time then they must undergo a DSE assessment. Includes: • An assessment of the workstation including equipment, furniture and work conditions

DRIVERMEDICAL – COMPANY CAR Driving is one of the most dangerous work activities your employees may undertake. It's therefore vital that an employee's health is assessed andmonitored before undertaking any driving roles. Includes:

DRUG & ALCOHOL TESTING Under the Misuse of Drugs Act (1971) it's an offence for an employer to knowingly permit the use of controlled substances on their premises. Alcohol testing can be carried out through either a urine or breathalyser test. Drug testing can be carried out through either a urine or fingerprint test.* We can test for any substance and are able to carry out five different types of testing: • Pre-placement • Post-accident • Reasonable suspicion • Random • Follow up *Fingerprint testing cannot be used for just cause/reasonable suspicion testing.

EXIT MEDICAL Once an employee’s employment contract comes to an end it is vital that an exit medical is undertaken to cover the employer from any future medical complications the employee may have. FORK LIFT TRUCKMEDICAL (FLT) Those who operate fork lift trucks require a certain degree of mobility in order to identify all the hazards within their working environment. Our FLTmedical ensures that your employees are fit for work. Includes:

FOOD HANDLER QUESTIONNAIRE Before commencing employment within a food business, it’s best practice for food handlers to obtainmedical clearance to ensure they’re fit and healthy to handle food. HAVS ASSESSMENT Prolonged exposure to vibration can cause many medical conditions, it’s therefore a legal requirement for all those working with vibrating tools to undergo HAVS assessments. Tier 2 This is an annual questionnaire that’s administered to all employees exposed to vibration. The results of this indicate whether an employee needs to undergo a T3 or T4 HAVS assessment.

Tier 3 This is a face to face assessment. If the results show that an employee has symptoms that are indicative of HAVS then they’re referred to T4.

HIGHER LEVEL SAFETY CRITICAL MEDICAL

ILL HEALTH RETIREMENT MEDICAL If an employee is suffering from ill health that affects their ability to work and effectively will force their retirement before reaching the official retirement age, an ill health retirement medical is required. If the assessment determines that the individual cannot continue working then they'll be eligible for early pension. Includes: • Completion of pension documents (if provided) • Face to face health assessment • Medical records review

For those employees who require a higher level of fitness we can provide a higher level safety critical medical. This is also suitable for industries such as emergency services, sewer workers and anyworker that requires a higher level of fitness for safety purposes. Includes: • Audiometry

IONISING RADIATIONMEDICAL According to the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR2017) workers who are classified as Category A require medical surveillance. Classified persons are those who are likely to receive a dose of radiation greater than 6 mSv per year, or an equivalent dose greater than three-tenths of any of the dose limits for other tissues. Includes: • Clinical examination (HSE form) • Dosimetry review • General health assessment • Skin assessment • Spirometry

LEADMEDICAL Before an employee starts working with lead they must undertake an initial lead medical. The HSE also advises that if there are significant rises in lead exposure, a risk of ingesting lead, as well as skin contact with lead, then a lead assessment must be undertaken. After the initial medical the employee must then undergo periodic leadmedicals. Includes: • Audiometry • Blood test for lead, haemoglobin and zinc protoporphyrin • Clinical examination • Initial medical assessment (HSE form) • Neurological examination • Review of personal hygiene and lifestyle • Spirometry

MANAGEMENT REFERRAL If there are concerns that work could be affecting an employee’s health, or a health issue could be affecting an employee’s ability to do their job, then a referral to occupational health can be made for advice and assistance. We offer four types of referral: • Face to Face: when there is a need for a physical exam • Telephone: the fastest andmost convenient method • Video: when the face to face element is needed but it isn't feasible • Ill health retirement (see page 18)

LONEWORKER HEALTH ASSESSMENT All employers are expected to ensure that their lone workers are fit and healthy to work alone. Includes: • Online or printed questionnaire If the result of the assessment highlights any area of concern then the employee should undergo a telephone referral.

MUSCULOSKELETAL ASSESSMENT The purpose of a musculoskeletal assessment is to evaluate whether an employee has the agility and flexibility to perform their job role to the best of their ability. NATIONAL FEDERATION OF DEMOLITION CONTRACTORS MEDICAL (NFDC) All NFDCmembers should undergo mandatory site audits that include health surveillance. At the time of an audit, members must show a letter of appointment or service agreement with a health surveillance provider. SAFETY CRITICAL MEDICAL For anyone working in a safety critical industry, such as construction or engineering, they must undergo a safety critical medical to ensure that they are not suffering from any medical conditions or undergoing any medical treatment that could affect their health and safety.
