ADMIRATION FOR MY TEAM WE ARE SMALL BUT MIGHTY
Summer is winding down and coming to a close, and before we know it, we will be saying hello to fall! This time of year, the kids are all heading back to school and the holidays are knocking on our door! At the beginning of this month, we celebrate Labor Day, a day dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the contributions and accomplishments of the hardworking men and women of this country! It seems like now, more than ever, the blue-collar class works harder than ever to make ends meet while we work to overcome the impacts of COVID-19 and the rising costs of inflation (gas costs what now?!). In reflecting on what this extra Monday off of work really means, I can’t help but feel extremely grateful for the team I have in place today. After all, it’s often said that a company is only as great as its employees.
We are small but mighty, and there are two ladies who certainly help me to get the job done and best serve my clients. Diane is our office manager and executive assistant and has been with me for eight years. I can truthfully say that without her, I’m not sure where I’d be — she does a terrific job, and if you’re reading this, you likely know she’s a breath of fresh air! Christine, our receptionist and marketing assistant, is a newer member of our team and collaborates closely with Diane. She’s been with us for about six months now and has really impressed me in this short amount of time. With any job, there’s a learning curve, but she handles it with grace and has already proven her value here! Not to mention, Diane is a great mentor!
now that I’m in my 80s), I’ve been focused on personal growth. Many of you know that when I was young and wanted a bike, my dad told me we were too poor, but he said if I don’t ever lie or steal, and ensure my word is better than any contract I sign, as long as I work my fanny off, I can get it. And so, working my fanny off has been something I’ve always worked on my whole life. As my wife says, work is my hobby. I’ve taken many personal growth courses over the years and love to engage my mind. I’m a true believer that we never stop learning, which is one of the best ways we can improve upon ourselves. This month, I encourage each of you to focus on working on yourselves, whether it’s physically, mentally, or spiritually. After all, your only true competition is yourself!
This month, we also commemorate Self-Improvement Month, and for my entire life (which is pretty long

THIS BELGIAN MALINOIS NEEDS A CAPE
Eva’s Stand-Off With a Mountain Lion
A commonly uttered phrase among dog lovers is that we don’t deserve them. This comes from the fact that dogs often give their all to protect their owners, even if that means putting their own lives at risk. Dogs seem to be instinctively wired to protect their humans — and it’s more proof they really are our best friends. In May 2022, Erin Wilson pulled off at a roadside picnic area and headed down a path toward the Trinity River in California with her Belgian Malinois, Eva. As Wilson walked down the slope, the dog ran ahead. Suddenly, Wilson turned around and realized she was being cornered by a mountain lion.
The mountain lion growled and took a swipe at Wilson’s left shoulder. As it lunged at her, Wilson screamed and shouted for Eva. At the distressed call of her owner, the dog came running back to Wilson’s aid. Without hesitation, Eva leapt between Wilson and tackled the wild cat. During the short tussle, the mountain lion managed to get its jaws around Eva’s head, but Wilson fought to free her dog by throwing rocks in an attempt to break its hold. When that didn’t work, she ran back to her truck and managed to wave down a passing motorist. With
their combined efforts — and a crowbar and lots of pepper spray — they were able to scare the mountain lion away. Wilson, though wounded, managed to carry Eva back to her truck and raced her to an animal hospital. Thankfully, Eva didn’t need surgery but still had some extensive injuries. Unfortunately, while Eva survived the initial attack, she passed away due to her injuries on June 8, 2022. Wilson said she would do anything for her dog, and that day, Eva proved she had done the same for Wilson.”
These attacks are incredibly rare due to the mountain lion’s reclusive and shy nature. In fact, since 1890, California has recorded only six fatal mountain lion attacks. However, recent drought conditions have made food scarce in some areas. Their preferred prey is deer, but these conditions probably made the sudden appearance of a slender woman look like an attractive option.
We can hardly believe it: After what feels like decades of waiting, there is finally a surgery-free, FDA-approved alternative to reading glasses on the market! In late 2021, the FDA gave its stamp of approval to VUITY eye drops, which have been clinically proven to treat age-related blurry vision (aka presbyopia). How does VUITY work? VUITY eye drops contain a medication called pilocarpine. When you add drops of VUITY to your eyes, the pilocarpine encourages your pupils to shrink — which helps your eyes focus, even if you have vision problems. The drops aren’t a permanent fix for presbyopia or intended to replace reading glasses long term, but they will help you read a book or work at your laptop without your readers for 2–3 hours at a time. The VUITY website recommends using no more than one drop in each eye once per day to improve your “near and intermediate” vision. Are these eye drops right for me? According to a Healthline interview with ophthalmologist Dr. Yuna Rapoport, VUITY eye drops are ideal for people in their 40s and early 50s. Younger people with vision problems may also benefit from the drops, but they rarely have to worry about presbyopia. If you’re older than 55, VUITY may not be strong enough to stand in for your reading glasses. Ultimately, you should ask your eye doctor if VUITY is a good option for you. (No, It Isn’t LASIK Surgery) The New Alternative to Reading Glasses
How can I get VUITY? VUITY is a prescription product, so you need to purchase it through your eye doctor (this can be an ophthalmologist or optometrist). You can’t buy VUITY off the shelf. To learn more about this process and find the answers to frequently asked questions, visit VUITY.com. You can also simply ask your doctor about the product at your next appointment. The FDA’s approval of VUITY in October 2021 was a big win for everyone with age-related vision problems. LASIK surgery can be expensive ($1,000–$4,000 per eye on average), and reading glasses are easily lost, broken, or forgotten. VUITY could be a good alternative for a big portion of the 128 million Americans with presbyopia. We can’t wait to see (pun intended) what our medical innovators come up with next.

Though we may not always think about it, balance is essential to just about everything we do in our daily routines. From simply getting out of bed, leaning over to tie our shoes, or even walking to the mailbox, we need good balance to keep ourselves steady while performing normal tasks. Know why balance is important. Balance is the ability to control your body’s position, whether stationary or moving. It is a key component of fitness that many people neglect while developing their fitness regimen. Balance training is a great way to help your body recognize where it is and control movements in a given space. When the body knows where its limbs are in space — known as proprioception — it is able to produce smooth, controlled movements with fewer risks of injuries. Reaction time and agility are also improved with balance training. The body learns how to quickly correct itself but not overcompensate and has the ability to quickly change direction effectively and efficiently. Though balance training is important for everyone, it is especially important for those who have problems due to illness, weakness, or dizziness. It allows them to overcome stiffness or unsteadiness and to develop an awareness of body segments and how to align them. Find Your Balance 5 EXERCISES TO IMPROVE BALANCE

While there’s tons to see and experience during the day, the beauty doesn’t stop at night. As Stanley is situated in the Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve, you’re able to see so much more in the night sky, such as the Milky Way, meteors, and even planets! Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming In Grand Teton National Park, you’ll find many sights and wildlife similar to those seen on screen in “Yellowstone.” The towering craggy peaks and luscious landscape do not disappoint, and sometimes there is no sign of human development for miles. It’s a truly remote and beautiful place to visit and explore.
Because of the popularity of the Kevin Costner miniseries “Yellowstone,” the state of Montana is seeing an economic boom, both in tourism and real estate, as people flock to explore the natural beauty of the state. But with Montana’s increasing popularity, traveling there may not be ideal, especially if you want to avoid crowds. Here are some other destinations that offer similar sights and activities! Stanley, Idaho If the mountains are calling your name, then Stanley, Idaho, is the place to go!
