Sustainability 2023 - for review

OUR DRIVE NEVER STOPS AVERITT’S ONGOING SUSTAINABILITY MISSION

FOR OUR PEOPLE. FOR OUR PLANET.

OUR JOURNEY CONTINUES

At Averitt, we recognize that sustainability isn’t simply a goal – it’s an ongoing responsibility. Particularly for those of us in the transportation industry. To that end, we know there is no finish line, because there is always more we can do to protect and preserve the natural resources we all depend on. Through the tireless efforts of our dedicated associates, we are committed to:

• Embracing new innovations and technology • Pioneering new processes

• Continually evaluating our supply chains – and those of our customers – to eliminate waste and pollutants • Taking daily, measurable steps toward a climate neutral future

We do all this and more to ensure a healthy, hopeful tomorrow for our associates, our customers, our communities, and our planet.

WE’VE BEEN ON THIS PATH FOR DECADES

AVERITT IS PROUD TO BE A FOUNDING MEMBER OF SMARTWAY. This program was created in 2004 by the Environmental Protection Agency to reduce transportation-related emissions and improve supply chain efficiency. As one of only 52 charter members, we agreed to meet specific environmental and energy-saving goals while sharing our progress annually with the EPA. Through this program, we established a systematic approach to both reduce emissions and conserve fuel. As a result, we’ve earned a SmartWay score of 1.25, which represents “Outstanding Environmental Performance,” according to the EPA.

Since joining the SmartWay program, we’ve achieved:

of diesel fuel saved 6.2

REDUCTION in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions 38% 96% REDUCTION in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions

MAKING A MEASURABLE DIFFERENCE

It’s not enough to say you’re committed to change. You’ve got to back up that commitment with action.

At Averitt, we’ve incorporated sustainable practices throughout our organization – and these practices are making a quantifiable impact on the health of our planet. The following pages highlight a few of these practices and outline ways we plan to continue our ongoing journey toward a fully sustainable future.

REDUCED CARBON EMISSIONS

Innovative tire inflation technology, fleet upgrades, aerodynamic accessories, and a shift to EV forklifts are contributing to reduced CO2 levels in 2022 and beyond:

THAT’S JUST THE BEGINNING We continue to move forward on the road to responsibility. Whether it’s through smarter energy use, environmental advocacy, or eco-friendly technology, we never stop finding new and better ways to ensure the impact we make on our environment and in our communities is a positive one.

Use technology that gathers data and measures FUEL EFFICIENCY on an individual tractor level.

Use leading-edge software to PLAN ROUTES EFFICIENTLY and alert drivers to the most cost-effective fueling locations.

Use an automated vehicle ID program that lets drivers bypass weigh stations – REDUCING UNNECESSARY IDLING .

Equip tractors and trailers with LED LIGHTS to reduce light bulb failures and replacements.

Use “Eco-roll” and coast modes to allow tractors to coast on downgrades and stay in cruise control mode on level grades to MAXIMIZE MPG .

Offer both truckload and intermodal services to provide outstanding transit times and more FUEL-EFFICIENT TRANSPORTATION .

Improve AERODYNAMICS through such modifications as roof fairings, cab extenders, skirt packages and more.

CAPTURE 100% of the Freon when servicing our tractor A/C units and recycle accordingly.

Use engines with the latest technology in exhaust, gas and soot regeneration to REDUCE EMISSIONS .

Use LOW-VISCOSITY LUBRICANTS and engine oils for less frequent maintenance service and fewer waste products.

Use automatic transmissions with predictive cruise and coast modes for level grades and downgrades to help INCREASE MPG .

RECYCLE all scrap metal created from in-house maintenance and body work on tractors and trailers.

OUR DRIVE HASN’T

We’re proud to have been recognized for our sustainability efforts by some of the industry’s leading organizations.

But that’s not why we do it.

We do it because we recognize our responsibility as an industry leader to set a standard for others to follow.

T GONE UNNOTICED

THE PATH TO A CLEANER FUTURE

We know our actions have a real and lasting impact on the planet we all share. That’s why a focus on sustainability is woven into every decision we make. At Averitt, we work every day to make measurable, daily improvements – partnering with leading universities, logistics centers, other transportation companies, and industry experts to find new and effective ways to conserve and measure our energy usage. We never stop looking for more environmentally friendly ways to do business. Because we know the choices we make today will directly affect the world we’ll leave behind tomorrow.

That philosophy is part of our culture.

We make this promise to ourselves, our customers, and to future generations: we will do everything in our power to protect this precious planet we all call home.
