MIRROR, MIRROR ON THE WALL …

Success Is a Constant Effort

When you take a look in the mirror, what do you see?

more. I take pride in my achievements and push myself to be constantly better. I’m not afraid to admit I’m obsessed with personal growth and improvement, and that has manifested itself in my business. I’m constantly searching for a better way to serve my patients and provide the best care. In fact, it’s a running joke across all of our offices that I never stay the same — I’m always changing. I believe that without constant change, you’ll find constant failure. The only way to improve and build upon your foundation is to find motivation and take risks. You have to try.

I’M NOT AFRAID TO ADMIT I’M OBSESSED WITH PERSONAL GROWTH AND IMPROVEMENT.

This is a crucial question to ask yourself. Beyond seeing your own face staring back at you, I hope you see a constant work in progress, someone you are proud of, and the best version of yourself you can be today. I hope you see your goals, aspirations, and future, along with some of your greatest memories. I hope you see the family you represent and your passions and values in life.

We have an incredible team of individuals that always puts our patients first — they are the backbone of our offices, and I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without them. This past month, we were able to finally offer medical insurance to our employees, which has been a large goal of mine for quite some time now. Now, all our team members can take care of themselves and get checkups without worrying about the cost. Out of the blue, an employee ended up needing surgery, and it warmed my heart to know this was covered! My message to you? Never stop learning and keep moving forward. Be kind to the person you see in the mirror. Most importantly, don’t fear failure — it’s the best way to progress!

July 3 is Compliment Your Mirror Day. It’s one of those fun national days you may

WHAT YOUR SUMMER GARAGE SALE CAN TEACH YOUR KIDS

A summer garage sale is a tried and tested way to earn a little cash while eliminating things you no longer need. But it’s also the perfect opportunity for parents to teach their children a few life lessons. Making your garage sale a family project can teach kids about organization, money management, and the pride of a hard day’s work. The lessons start immediately as your family determines what they no longer need. Younger children, in particular, often struggle to part with their possessions. A garage sale is an opportunity to discuss what they use, what they don’t, and why we can’t keep every object we own forever. This process will teach kids organization as they create their “keep,” “sell,” and “toss” piles. On the big day, your children can also play a significant role in organizing and displaying your merchandise. Kids can help determine which items should share a

kids set prices is probably unwise, you can help them understand market value and what people will pay for used merchandise. Your children can take a more active role in the sale itself. Depending on their ages, they can gain valuable experience making change for customers or negotiating a deal on the items for sale. The best part of using your garage sale as a learning opportunity is that your children can personally experience the value of hard work. They’ll watch their old possessions disappear and the cash trickle in. More than anything, they’ll probably love adding up the day’s takings. Whether or not you give your kids a cut of the earnings is up to you. But even if they don’t end up with fatter pockets, your children will walk away from the family garage sale with lessons that will last longer than any extra cash could.

table and what should be front and center to catch buyers’ eyes.

Math and money management also play a pivotal role in any successful garage sale. First, you must determine what the items you’re selling are worth. While letting your

It’s Important to Brush

BUT DON’T OVERBRUSH!

We all know brushing your teeth is incredibly important, but we also must be careful to avoid overbrushing, too! Overbrushing, also known as “toothbrush abrasion,” is when you brush your teeth for too long, use too much pressure to brush, or brush improperly. The

American Dental Association recommends brushing your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time, as overbrushing can lead to some potentially serious problems! RECEDING GUMS Brushing your teeth too much or with too much force can cause your gums to recede, which can compromise your smile as it can expose sensitive tooth roots, potentially opening up the risk for infection, discomfort, decay, and gum disease. SENSITIVE TEETH Overbrushing can slowly wear away the enamel on your teeth, which is designed to protect your teeth. When this happens, the dentin layer’s nerve endings can become exposed, potentially leading to very sensitive teeth. This sensitivity can cause you to feel pain when your teeth are exposed to hot and cold sensations.

To protect your teeth from toothbrush abrasion, begin with these steps.

1. USE A SOFT-BRISTLED TOOTHBRUSH. If the bristles on your toothbrush are too hard or stiff, this can increase the chances of damaging your tooth enamel. 2. TAKE CARE NOT TO BRUSH TOO HARD. One way to know if you’re brushing your teeth too vigorously is by looking at your toothbrush. If the bristles are frayed after just a few weeks of use, you may be applying too much pressure when brushing!

3. USE THE RIGHT TOOTHPASTE. Did you know that some tubes of

toothpaste contain abrasive particles and agents that can wear down your enamel? Look for kinds of toothpaste that are rich in calcium and fluoride to keep your teeth strong and healthy!

GRILLED STEAK SALAD WITH PEACHES

Inspired by Delish.com

This summer salad is both hearty and healthy!

Dental anxiety is real. Studies show that roughly 36% of individuals have a fear of going to the dentist, and 12% of people have a very serious, extreme fear. While it’s common, you should never let anxiety and fear keep you from seeing the dentist, which, unfortunately, about 20% of people do. Here at Texas Sedation Dental, our goal is to ensure our patients are comfortable when they visit our office and that they don’t avoid their dental care. We are dedicated to providing the highest care standard possible. We provide a wide range of dental sedation options to help make your trips to our office comfortable and smooth. From the moment you walk through the door, our team of professionals will put you at ease. In both our Longview and Tyler offices, we offer both oral sedation and intravenous sedation. In addition to the sedation methods we offer, there are some tips and tricks you can utilize on your own to help make your trip to the dentist a bit less stressful and daunting. TIME YOUR ARRIVAL. If you’re running behind schedule, this can only build your anxiety more, but on the flip side, if you’re too early and waiting for a while in the waiting room, this can be stressful, too. Allow yourself just enough time to fill out our paperwork! BRING DISTRACTIONS. Whether you listen to music, read a magazine, or surf the internet on your phone, bringing distractions to keep you busy during your appointment, cleaning, and procedures can help! BREATHE. Before your appointment, do a few breathing exercises or meditate, even if it’s in your car in the parking lot. This will help to get you in a calm and positive state of mind before your appointment. Don’t let your fear of the dentist keep you from visiting us! If you have any anxiety or fear, don’t be afraid to let us know — we are prepared to help you feel more comfortable! forecasting site like GoodToStargaze.com . It will provide all the technical details and a simple “yes” or “no” verdict about the evening’s stargazing suitability. FIND THE IDEAL SPOT. Those who live in rural areas without much light pollution won’t have to go far to see the stars, but everyone else should do a little planning. Scope out a location away from city lights that has an unobstructed view of the sky, and make sure it’s legal for you to go there. You’ll also need a place to set up blankets or chairs for a comfortable and relaxed experience. BRING ESSENTIAL SUPPLIES. Don’t ruin the perfect evening by being unprepared! After so much planning, the last thing you want is to be run off by a chilly breeze or some pesky mosquitoes. The summer night in an open space may be

Many children are fascinated by the mystery and beauty of outer space, but most tend to lose their reverence as they get older. That doesn’t have to be the case! A night of stargazing is the perfect way to spend a romantic evening or have a fun time with your family. But creating the ideal experience isn’t always as simple as stepping outside and looking up. Here are some tips to make the most of an astrological adventure. PICK THE RIGHT NIGHT. All nighttime skies are not created equal. Would-be stargazers must consider the weather and cloud cover. Further, the light from the moon tends to wash out the dimmer sparkle of distant stars, and it’s best to go during or immediately before or after a new moon phase. It can all be complicated, so make it easier with a stargazing

cooler than expected, so bring a sweater or jacket. Ensure your clothing and seating are comfortable, and don’t forget bug spray. It’s also wise to pack some snacks and plenty of water. Further, you can step up your game by bringing binoculars or a star map. But remember to take all your goodies home with you. Leave nothing behind so the next amateur astrologists can enjoy their experience as much as you did.
