Lobby Décor Celebrating the victory of light over darkness Diwali or Deepavali is also known as the festival of lights, is an ancient Hindu festival celebrated in autumn every year. Diwali is the brightest festival of India and signifies the victory of light over darkness. Rangoli symbolizes happiness, unity and good luck and at Shangri-La Hotel Bengaluru a rangoli that was 20 x 20 feet length was prepared to mark this special occasion. Peacock is associated with Goddess Saraswati, a deity representing benevolence, patience, kindness, compassion and knowledge. And our team of florists adorned the lobby with a grand peacock made out of orchids.

Christmas Time “Tis the season to be jolly” was indeed the mood of the day for anyone who walked into Shangri-La hotel, Bengaluru’s lobby in December. With an 26 feet tall Christmas tree dominating our lobby and decorations in shades of blue and silver, the feel of winter wonderland truly came through. Kudos to Mathew and team for bringing this North Pole wonderland to life.

All India Mixology Competition

Congratulations to Mr. Pradeep Benjamin, our mixologist from b café, who secured second position at the “All India Mixology Competition” by American Whiskey Legacy. He is pictured with two of his signature cocktails, namely the “Jack-a-tini” & “A Gentlemen's Tribute.”

Wave Day Celebrations

Our Engineering and A&G team hosted Wave Day in the month of October & November.

The theme chosen were Save water & Children's day respectively.

With fun activities and wonderful performances, the events were truly entertaining & informative.

Bala Challenge

To break away from the monotony of daily work life our colleagues were given a chance to showcase their creativity and dance skills through the “Bala challenge”. The Bala challenge is a viral challenge in India based on a Bollywood song called “Shaitan ka saala” from the movie Housefull 4.

Tree Lighting Ceremony

Video of choir singing Our annual tree lighting ceremony was held on 30th November, 2019. To mark this occasion, we had our very own in house choir serenade guests with Christmas carols. Every year we hang the individual wishes of the children from our Embrace Partner- Angels orphanage on the Christmas tree and our guests are given the opportunity to fulfil their wishes. These wishes are left hanging on the tree for a month to ensure everyone gets an opportunity to contribute.

Diwali Celebrations

Diwali is also known as Deepavali, Dipavali, Dewali, Deepawali, or the Festival of Lights. It is celebrated in October or November each year. One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance".

A special lunch was prepared for our colleagues at Café Suggi to rejoice this exceptional day.

Ullasa 2019 Annual Staff Party

On the eve of 27 th December 2019, we hosted ULLASA our annual colleague dance and dinner event. Celebrations were galore and there was palpable excitement and enthusiastic participation from all our colleagues. Power packed performances were given by all the departments. Housekeeping team emerged as the winner and Kitchen team were the runner up in the dance competition. This was followed by prize distribution and raffle draw which included stay at our sister properties and some exciting gifts. The annual day concluded with a sumptuous meal and DJ night.

Sustainability Activities

General Health Checkup Camp

To ensure our colleagues take as good care of themselves as they do of our guests, a general health check up camp was organized on 11 December 2019 in partnership with Fortis Hospitals. Approximately 100 colleagues participated and after the initial tests, a doctor consulted

each of the colleagues to analyze the results and provide his prognosis.

Caring For Our Community

In our constant effort to give back to the community, we organized a medical camp for our embrace partner- Angel’s Orphanage. 48 children received free of cost general health check up to ensure their good health and vitality. Those children's who require further follow ups will be taken care of by the hotel.

Children's Day Celebrations

Children’s Day is celebrated on 14 November every year as a tribute to India's First Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru who was fondly known as “Chacha Nehru” among children. To celebrate this special day colleagues from SLBL took 44 children from our Embrace Partner- Angels orphanage, out for a day of fun and adventure at Cubbon Park & Bal Bhavan.

Charity Bazaar – Promises Fulfilled

The proceeds from the Charity Bazaar held on June 2019 helped us in our commitment towards driving our sustainability initiatives with our embrace partner – Angel’s Orphanage. A total sum of INR 31,600 was collected and this amount was utilized towards buying a Washing Machine for Angel’s Orphanage.

A hearty thank you to all our colleagues for their valuable contribution.

Secret Santa Housekeeping Department

Every year our housekeeping team celebrated Christmas with secret Santa in their department. However this year they decided to do more and chose to become Secret Santa’s for the children of Angels Orphanage- Our Embrace Partner. The team collectively gathered funds and visited the orphanage where they spent time quality time with the children and enjoyed some snacks. They also gifted the orphanage 3 much needed pressure cooker’s worth INR 10,000 to aide in their daily cooking tasks.

Junior Leaders Program Graduation [JLP]

On Nov 11, 2019, We held a graduation ceremony to commemorated the learning journey of our JLP participants. Each of our participants showcased their experience over the past 6 months via videos. It was a fantastic evening that involved our Ex-com team members and JLP participants interacting and sharing their key learning moments. Course completion certificates were presented to our Junior Leaders by our Resident Manager - Mr. Rakesh Sethi.
