INTERNATIONAL TRADE

In 1991, RSL ROCKSCHOOL LTD created a unique set of products for a brand-new marketplace: recognised, graded qualications for contemporary musicians. After successfully developing the market domestically in the UK, the company then expanded its operations into the international marketplace. Now active in over 40 countries, RSL exams can be taken in six continents across the globe. RSL’s continued commitment tomotivate and support students and teachers alike has seen us innovate inmany new and exciting ways. By continuing to create engaging, contemporary qualications, RSL has expanded operations from gradedmusic exams, to the inclusion of teaching and performance diplomas, vocational qualications (for the creative industries), and performance arts awards (for dance andmusical theatre). Rockschool has come a long way since its humble beginnings in the early 90’s. Starting out with graded music exams in only drums, bass, and electric guitar – exams are now available for acoustic guitar, vocals, piano, ukulele and music production – the latter was developed to reect industry changes brought about by the digital innovations of the 21st century. Specac Limited

SPECAC LIMITED is based in Orpington, Kent, and has been in business since 1971. The company designs and manufactures accessories for spectrometers used in science and industry. They specialise in the supply of sample-analysis accessories – high-specication equipment using mirrors and crystal materials to direct infrared light. Specac sells to 70 countries across ve continents, including the United States, China, Germany, Singapore and Japan. Export has been at the heart of the business since 2008, when sta rst travelled overseas to build relationships, visit trade shows and boost sales. With growth in overseas and total sales, and turning losses into prot, Specac Limited has won The Queen’s Award for International Trade for achieving outstanding continuous growth in overseas sales over the past six years. David Smith, Managing Director of Specac, said: “I’m deeply honoured the business I’ve had the privilege to lead for the past 10 years has won such a prestigious award. I believe it represents recognition at the highest level for a good commercial strategy, high quality in everything we design and make, and mostly, the hard work over a long period of an amazing team.” Rodney Appiah, Investment Director from Specac’s majority shareholder, Foresight Group, added: “To have been recognised for the Queen’s Award for International Trade is testament to the dedication and eort of David and the talented sta at Specac. “With the benet of Foresight’s support, Specac has continued to innovate and rene its oering both at home and abroad.
