VIRGINIA VETERANS RESOURCE GUIDE 2025
Advising Boards and Supportive Organizations
Board of Veterans Services
The Board of Veterans Services advises the Virginia Department of Veterans Services regarding programs and policies that enhance veteran services across the Commonwealth.
Joint Leadership Council of Veterans Service Organizations
The Virginia War Memorial Foundation
The Joint Leadership Council of Veterans Service Organizations (JLC) provides a vehicle for veterans service organizations to collaborate with the Department of Veterans Services on meeting the needs of Virginia’s veterans. The Joint Leadership Council is open to one representative from each qualifying veterans service organization in Virginia that chooses to participate. All veterans organizations are encouraged to join this initiative to support Virginia’s veterans and their families. Contact DVS at (804) 786-0286 to learn more about JLC membership.
The Virginia War Memorial Foundation supports education, preservation, and veteran outreach programs hosted by the Virginia War Memorial in a public–private partnership. The foundation’s overarching mission is to honor veterans. To do so, the foundation preserves their stories, primarily through the award-winning documentary series, Virginians at War, which features oral histories from veterans and civilians set against the backdrop of the historical record. The education programs, including free education for history educators and livestream classes, provide context for the Commonwealth’s military history in war and peacetime. Throughout the year, foundation and memorial staff collaborate to host creative programming for veterans across Virginia, most notably the Mighty Pen Project, a free college-level writing class for Virginia veterans.
