CIOB WELCOMES NEW FELLOWS AND MEMBERS AT FIRST LIVE GRADUATION IN TWO YEARS…

Chartershipgraduates celebrate careermilestone

T he Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) – the world’s largest and most influential professional body for construction management and leadership-hosted a graduation ceremony at Queen’s University Belfast on Saturday, 20 November, 2021. This was the first CIOB graduation event to be hosted in Belfast for two years. Five new Fellows and 41 new chartered members were conferred during the ceremony. Speakers were Rt. Hon. Lord Mayor, Councillor Kate Nicholl, Roger Gillespie FCIOB – Chair of the CIOB Belfast Hub committee, Caroline Gumble - Chief Executive of the CIOB, Ivan McCarthy FCIOB - Trustee of the CIOB, and Noel McKee – Trustee of the CIOB. Councillor Nicholl used her address to congratulate the graduates and to remind everyone that the construction industry is a key driver for the physical and cultural regeneration of Belfast.

Cllr Nicholl also raised the work of CIOB members in helping to reshape the city. Caroline Gumble, Chief Executive of the CIOB, took the opportunity to praise the graduates on their achievement and encouraged the new members to champion the implementation of professionalism throughout their workplace and further afield. Roger Gillespie, Chair of the CIOB Belfast Hub committee, later commented, “It was fantastic to see so many people receiving recognition. This event attracted attendees from far and wide. We had people travelling from Kerry, Sligo, Dublin, Glasgow and England just to attend. Chartership is recognised as a milestone qualification in someone’s career and often helps springboard people on to

more senior positions as it demonstrates occupational and management competence, as well as a commitment to professionalism.” Mascott Construction was particularly well represented with their Managing Director Jonathan Payne FCIOB being awarded Fellow membership, three management staff being awarded chartered membership, while Mark Hanna FCIOB was presented a certificate for the business becoming a CIOB chartered building company. The event concluded with refreshments served in the Great Hall. The CIOB would like to thank Queen’s University Belfast for facilitating the event and congratulate the new Fellow and chartered members on their achievement.
