CITB NI CONTINUES WITH ITS COMMITMENT TO SUPPORTING TRAINING AND UPSKILLING IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY… Be skilled and ready to attract new talent

T he CITB NI Grant scheme and training programmes are widely recognised within the industry and will continue to provide both training and financial support for employers. CITB NI Grants range from £15 to £2,000 depending on the grant category and are not limited to just construction trades. Registered employers are encouraged to make use of the grant scheme to help improve skills within their workforce. The training grant funds are easy to claim and employers are encouraged to claim online via the website. Over the past few years CITB NI has increased apprenticeship grants to meet skills shortages in traditional trades such as bricklayers, joiners and roofers. There is now up to £11,700 available to employers to support new and existing construction apprentices within the local industry. The funding available is a combined financial offering from CITB NI training grants and the Department for the Economy’s new Apprentice Recovery Package in a move to help the apprenticeship system respond to the impact of the Covid-19 crisis. Over recent years the widely established CITB NI grants scheme has supported over 400 young apprentices who have joined the industry. Due to the successful uptake of the apprenticeship grant, CITB

NI has maintained this grant, which means that £6,500 can be claimed for a fully employed apprentice over a three-year period. TRAINING PROGRAMMES With over a third of construction workers reporting that they have experienced a condition in the past year, mental health is a significant and on-going issue within the industry. CITB NI has been working in partnership with Inspire Workplaces to deliver a series of mental health and well being training courses to support the local construction industry. Delivered by Inspire Workplaces, the training courses have been designed to support individuals at all levels of the construction workforce working within the Northern Ireland construction industry. Course content includes: Mental Health First Aid, addiction to drugs and alcohol, grief support, Good Mood Food and helping employees living with anxiety. A series of Business Improvement Webinars has also been launched to help construction employers develop skills in key business areas such as Digital Marketing, Quality Control, Supply Chain Management, Tax, GDPR and Tendering.
