The stand-out fit-out included feature ‘Spanish Steps’ across two levels of the building, with treads clad in timber, high spec glass and wire mesh balustrading. The building itself provides flexibility for modern hybrid working practices, and in many ways, it creates a blueprint for the office of the future. Spaces, which normally house small meeting rooms, can be transformed into event areas capable of accommodating up to 150 people. The restaurants have screens at the booths so staff can connect over lunch with others working remotely. Ray Hutchinson said: “We worked with excellent local partners to bring this fit-out project to life, with advanced logistical planning and management during what has been a challenging year for many industries, including construction. The entire team rolled up their sleeves and faced down any challenges that were presented, working as one with our partners to ensure the project remained on course.
“We collaborated closely with the client and our supply teams right across the project. “This is a building which will help foster an excellent working environment and help inspire and attract the best people to work in Belfast.” PwC in Northern Ireland is the fastest- growing UK region for the company and Merchant Square represents its largest regional office outside London.
