BEATTIE FLANIGAN DELIVERS AN INNOVATIVE M&E ENGINEERING DESIGN SERVICE FOR HIGH QUALITY, ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE BUILDINGS… Innovation and sustainability B eattie Flanigan has extensive experience across many sectors and its bespoke approach to conversion of an existing Endoscopy theatre to a general operating theatre and associated procedure rooms. The complexity of this project in part was relatively high as a result of a

possible with current technology and ductwork design principles. Extract fans were located on the existing flat roof to serve the various areas of the ICU. The practice liaised closely with other design team disciplines, especially the structural engineer, regarding structural support, equipment loadings and openings achievable through the roof and walls. CHEMOTHERAPY UNIT FOR MACMILLAN CANCER, ULSTER HOSPITAL, DUNDONALD Due to the particular complexities of this scheme, especially on the ventilation system, Beattie Flanigan was engaged early by the London-based architects carrying out the feasibility study and stage 3 design on behalf of Macmillan Cancer. The overarching challenge for the ventilation system was due to the amount of air required to be delivered at the patient locations, within very tight time constraints and planning requirements. The diversion and maintaining of services during the works required extensive consideration, ensuring that clinical procedures could continue in adjacent areas whilst also maintaining operational healthcare continuity within the hospital. THEATRE 8 CRITICAL CARE COMPLEX, ULSTER HOSPITAL, DUNDONALD This involved the design of M&E engineering services associated with the

sustainable design ensures that each project is developed on its own merits. Recent projects include: NI REGIONAL NIGHTINGALE COVID-19 STEPDOWN FACILITY AT WHITEABBEY HOSPITAL The building services engineering design was progressed, completed and signed off within the two weeks that the contractor had to strip out and remove the existing installation. The scheme was delivered on time for the December 1, 2020 deadline and went on to be a valuable asset in the second wave of the pandemic in Northern Ireland. The project entailed the design of M&E engineering services associated with the upgrade of existing wards and a separate ward block within the hospital site. Continuation of existing services to all adjacent areas had to be maintained at all times throughout the works. NEW INTENSIVE CARE UNIT ANTRIM AREA HOSPITAL The proposed ventilation installation to the ICU was much more complex than the existing installation and required careful consideration due to existing structure and existing retained serves within the plantroom and ceiling voids. Beattie Flanigan carried out early sketch designs alongside ventilation ductwork manufacturers exploring what was

requirement to use existing air handling plant and ventilation ductwork, along with new air handling plant to ensure the balance of airflows between the areas, where appropriate. CONCENTRIX EUROPEAN HQ CUSTOMER CONTACT CENTRE AND DATA CENTRE The former leisure centre facility was refurbised to accommodate a new European Customer Engagement Centre and Data Centre. The entire existing electrical services were removed prior to work commencing. A new electrical switchgear and distribution system was provided, along with synchronised generator, and new general external and emergency lighting was installed. ST COMGALL’S PARISH CHURCH, BANGOR As a result of a fire, the church was badly damaged and required complete refurbishment. The project involved the installation of a new heating system with a combination of steel column radiators, underfloor heating in the main church and radiators in the meeting rooms and welcome area. The electrical installation consisted of small power, LED lighting, fire alarm and new AV systems.
