KNAUF INSULATION AND MACBLAIR PARTNERSHIP HELPS BUILD ENERGY- EFFICIENT BUILDINGS… MacBlair supplies sustainable solutions fromKnauf Insulation

M ineral Wool insulation has a key role to play in improving the energy efficiency of buildings. But, if buildings are to be truly sustainable, then construction products must be too. That’s one reason why MacBlair Builders Merchant has partnered with Knauf Insulation, the UK’s only manufacturer of high performance, non-combustible glass and rock mineral wool insulation solutions. Ian McClelland, Head of Sales at MacBlair Builders Merchant said, “We’ve developed a strong partnership with Knauf Insulation over the years. What attracts us to them is the fact they are a leading brand and that they have a commitment to sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint.”

Knauf Insulation Glass Mineral Wool offers better thermal performance in some products and can achieve a lambda value of 0.032 W/mK.

This is evidenced by the fact that Knauf Insulation Glass Mineral Wool has the lowest embodied carbon of any mainstream insulation

Self-builders usually design homes to suit their lifestyles and values, so often go beyond the minimum requirements in the building regulations. To ensure maximum performance from Mineral Wool insulation, always select the right product for the right application. Knauf Insulation offers products suitable for the whole building including roof, wall and floor applications; they provide the best combination of thermal, fire safety and acoustic performance. Ultimately, with Knauf Insulation, there is no compromise. Products are designed to meet and exceed the performance demanded by clients and regulations, and will contribute to a building’s sustainability too. * ECOSE® Technology is used in the manufacture of all Knauf Insulation Glass Mineral Wool and the majority of its Rock Mineral Wool products.

material. It contains up to 80% recycled content and the company uses industry-leading compression technology so there’s more product per pack or pallet. This means less packaging used, less storage space needed at the branch and on site, and fewer trucks on the road. This helps builders, because they make fewer trips to the builders’ merchant, and there’s less fetching and carrying on site. The benefits of Knauf Insulation Mineral Wool to the environment and for builders continue thanks to ECOSE® Technology*, the company’s unique bio-based binder. It contains no added formaldehyde or phenol and is made from natural raw materials that are rapidly renewable, so is 70% less energy-intensive to manufacture than traditional binders. Products made with ECOSE® Technology are also soft to touch and easy to handle. They generate low levels of dust and VOCs and have been awarded the Eurofins Gold Certificate for Indoor Air Comfort. All Knauf Insulation’s Glass Mineral Wool product ranges have been accredited

as Declare ‘Red List Free’. The Declare label brings transparency to construction product labelling by answering where a product comes from, what it is made of and where it goes at the end of its life. It includes a straightforward ingredients list and shows whether products contain harmful chemicals featured on the ‘Red List’. Ian continued, “That [sustainability] is how we measure our providers and why we classify Knauf Insulation as one of our key suppliers. We have plans to further develop our partnership by committing to holding more stock on the ground in Northern Ireland and continuing in-house and customer training in Knauf Insulation products and applications. Self-build is important to MacBlair, and there is a vast range of Knauf Insulation products available for the self-build market which we are happy to discuss with customers.”
