Current Affairs: McDonalds in North Korea?

Is North Korean Dictator warming to American Culture, after he applauds American Disney characters’ show? It appears that North Koreans are warming

to American culture, after a troupe of dancing Disney characters put on a show. Children in North Korea are taught that Americans are enemies, and for a long period of time North Korea has not allowed foreign culture, isolating itself from the international community. But after a troupe of dancing Disney characters appeared, it seems that young dictator Kim Jong Un is finally changing his opinion on American culture. My opinion is that a lot of American culture is used in the daily life of myself and the North Korean community, such as: Coca-Cola and McDonalds. North Koreans are even

eating the Big Mac, a McDonalds meal first introduced in America. I personally think that Mickey Mouse is America’s secret peace weapon. Some think of him as Disney’s creation of a small mouse dressed in red dungarees, who stars in slapstick comedy. Others think he could create peace in North Korea and change the Dictator’s opinion, after he and his community have forever hated the Americans. The show was quoted to be like a “foreign policy Trojan horse”. American culture is taking over the whole world! Europe, Japan, Korea and even China. McDonalds restaurants are found in 118 countries and territories around the world and serve 68 million customers each day. McDonalds Nadia Khuzina http://www.nadiakhuzina.com/

operates over 35,000 restaurants worldwide, employing more than 1.7 million people. Chinese artist Ai Wei Wei bought some ancient Chinese pots and painted the logo of American brands on them, one of them being Coca-Cola, to show how American culture has been painted over ancient cultures. I find this very interesting how he has thought of this. I would find it intriguing to hear others’ opinions. Nassir Choudry, 7B
